I remember talking to a fellow trapper back in 2008. Gas prices were over $4.00 a gallon that summer on the road system. He was complaining how Oil Companies were sticking it to him. That year marten were paying over $100 average. I asked him if he was sticking it to the furbuyers? Why don't you stop gouging the furbuyers and sell them for last years price? We both made record profits that year and we both did not feel guilty about it. Better than record losses. The market sets prices based on supply and demand.

I read the other day that investors are worried rate cuts will slow as two policies of the Trump presidency will be inflationary. Tariffs and tax cuts (or more like tax credits these days) Not sure I agree tax cuts will be inflationary, just increased debt. I sure would like the no taxes on ot pay. just checked I have paid in $26,7xx so far this year. Add in 10k in property tax Gas tax licens plates and other fees and hidden taxes it's insane. Funny thing with tax cuts and those that think it has bad results. Historically tax cuts results in more taxes coming in because there is more productivity, i nvestments and increased GDP.

Stocks, companies value, profits, and bottom line are percentage driven. If company X has a20% profits this quarter but only 12% profit next quarter they view it and respond as if it was a loss. NO they still made money but in the twisted financial world they didn’t. Got educated real fast in my 30’s when I worked for a subsidiary of Motor wheel corporation. Company had profit sharing 401k all the benefits. First year great. Nice bonus. Next year they PROJECTED a 9 million dollar profit. Oh but wait they only made 2.3 million. So they lost 6.7 million according to report given at profit sharing meeting. That philosophy across corporate America is one factor why we are in the shape we are in. Look at markets. Wow Americans are doing great!! Look at joe public the struggle is real.
ONE AND ONLY thing I ever heard out of Biden mouth that added up was this statement. Inflation is a result of corporations taking in RECORD PROFITS Think about it. Instead of us paying 3.00 gal for gas so Exxon can post 108 BILLION in PROFITS in a quarter it would be better for the country if we paid 2:25 a gallon and they posted 56 billion profit. Yes I know share holders blah blah. Open mind solutions. Cause and effect thinking. You guys think anything besides gas is going down because Trump was elected your dreaming. Heck economic gurus are throwing a party because inflation dropped to 2.1 percent. But dumb nuts it’s still 2.1% above record high prices!! Your thinking like a communist. A private company should take less profits to off set the Goverment spending and central bank money printing running up inflation so the private sector is now responsible to make less money?

This isn't the Reagan era and the Laffer curve. Around 50 percent of Americans pay no income tax and around 10 percent pay negative income tax. These days it is just picking winners and losers and buying votes. Believe me I'm no fan of taxes, but I'm even lessor of a fan of paying taxes to be used to pay 1 trillion in interest per year and growing.

I hate taxes. Agree most people don't pay them and a small percentage of this country pays most of them.
But, no more taxes on tips, overtime and social security was promised. Yeah right. Bought a lot of votes. Probably not going to happen.

I guess that makes me one of the "elite" because I used to get HOSED on taxes. People than have 2-4 little "deductions" in the household did far better than me.
I have nothing clever to put here.

One of the pending real concerns is the massive debt, both mortgage, credit card and other debt consumers have accumulated buying during the higher inflation times. Cash availability or liquidity is not real strong right now. Lot of manufacturing places here in WI are slow with much less overtime, some firms are down below 40 and a couple near me are having employees off one whole week per month and the whole month of December will be off for one firm.
Bryce first time on record that farm loans over 1 million exceed loans under 1 mil.

A single person gets hosed on taxes. That needs to change some how.

Maybe that is part of the theory of consumption taxes and tariffs. That lets or causes everyone to pay tax. That lets the drug dealer that deals in cash still pay taxes on everything he buys. But that added benefit is hardly worth it because it affects the whole poor population. Part of the idea with the the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was that the gov wouldn't have to borrow money or print more, nor would the rich be burdened with more income taxes. They would just let the poor put more money in the government coffers, I doubt the idea to cut gov spending ever entered their minds. Anyway all they did was throw gasoline on an already declining economy and became Hoovers depression and reaping the political fallout. Before that the roaring 20's were booming and the girls dresses were getting shorter and a big crash would lead to more conservatism and changing the fashions to longer dresses.

I am not going to lie, the stock market has been good to me this last year. I'm not complaining either. " just checked I have paid in $26,7xx so far this year."I doubt anyone can say you are complaining after a 34.53% return.

But it isn't as rosy as it appears. Lots of red in certain sectors of US companies.
Wait for the other shoe to drop tomorrow at 2:30 eastern time when Powell starts speaking What's your gut feeling? Rate cut? Just saw this a bit late. Sure 25 bp is a given. Any deviation from that would come as an unpleasant surprise. That doesn't mean I think the cut is appropriate..........I don't

No not at all. My comment and only point is that inflation IS NOT supply and demand driven ONLY. That is an easy excuse to push a companies bottom line to MAKE RECORD PROFITS . !!!! Forget the whole" lack of" belief for pricing. You do know ONE big factor is "WILL IT SELL" at the asking price. If people are willing to pay the price all be it credit or cash , companies will continue to ask that price. Good example is CARS . EVERY lot in this area is packed to the gills every make every model. BUT prices on new cars aren't going down versus asking price when they sold a new one as soon as it backed off the hauler couple years back .Food prices aren't coming down. ATV certainly aren't coming down. Got 4 new dealerships here just opened up. LIst goes on and on of examples. Perfect point over decades is our friend gasoline. Arab had a runny fart and gas go up 1.50 gal. Even tho the reason wouldn't effect supply for 8 months.
