I hear you k snow on remembering the details. I've read over and over details.... but find it necessary to look at my books again to refresh when I want to comment.

I used to really focus on the glamour of the classical period in the Rockies but eventually got more into my own local area's history which meant learning a lot more about Hudson Bay's activities and earlier Astor's attempt to establish a post at the mouth of the Columbia. I've read all of Ogden's journals, Franchere, and Alexander Ross' accounts. Some great reading there from firsthand accounts.

And of course Jedediah Smith's epic trip up the Oregon coast driving a herd of 300 horses and mules is just amazing. I trap the river his men were massacred on in 1826.
