Hey all.... anyone ever had some one test the accuracy of On X on their phone. I hear some say it's super accurate and others say it can be off by 30 to 50 yds in places. Wonder what the game wardens say in a trespassing case?? Comments???

Beware that it is not up to date on who owns the land if sold in recently. Even if it sold a year or more ago.

my son runs it , it has a lot to do with how well they mapped an area and amount of tree cover.

if you are under a bunch of cover it will not be as accurate not seen it be more than about 50-100 feet off

we have found data to be off on things sold in the last 18 months for ownership.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

And it is only as accurate as the information fed into the system. ON-X and the iron survey stakes are usually pretty close but not always.

I use Ihunter, but doesn’t OnX have the blue dot or something showing where you are and have a shaded circle indicating accuracy? In bad areas, mine sometimes has a big 50yd circle that”ll slowly shrink down to a dark dot.

I would bet money that none of the commonly available GPS-based software would be ruled more accurate in a Court of Law than a laser rangefinder/surveyor's tape.

They use data provided by the counties, which is usually pretty close and sometimes not very accurate depending on the county.

In court, I guess it’s only a tool, but for finding sets it sure helps. If it’s well hidden, I mark it right after setting. When I go ten steps and pull out the phone to mark, it can be a battle standing there looking around. Even along the road, I though one was stolen last week, I just wasn’t zoomed in enough…lol

I would like to see someone compare it and the free app "Polaris ride app".

I use OnX a lot, all over the country. Some places it's spot on and correct, others not so much. Always best to compare it to tax maps and agency information. We also use it as a tool and teach the program at our mentored hunts, and have had OnX folks talk, and they basically say the same thing.

It had my MILs house property lines WAY off, but it was updated with in 30 days of her selling to the new owner.

Well online apps have caused murder of a forester here in southern ky , loggers and a foster working property and a new guy moves in on adjacent property starting trouble claiming land .cold bloodedly kills over his property line apps. I know its not the hunting apps fault it all boils down to how accurate your PVAs office is.

I use it to mark trap locations in sand dunes! It will get me to within 20-30 feet. I can find the trap if I’m that close.

In my area, it is close but not exact the PVA maps that they base the ownership on are not all that accurate, a lot of times the offset is obvious other times not so much. If you pay attention to the land where you are at then it is pretty easy to figure it out, for example you come to a fence but On-X says the boundary is 30 yards on the other side of the fence, I'd go with the fence as the boundary. Now the public ground tracks are generally quite accurate so if you are hunting public land here the boundary is pretty much where the app says it is.

As far as the game warden, it is your responsibility to know where you are legally allowed to hunt and where those boundaries are. Now with that said, if it is to the point where in a rural setting with no fences or signs the game warden has gotten called over a 30 yard error, the situation is already escalated. If the land owner contacted you, you explained the situation to them and showed them what the app was saying, apologized for the error and immediately left the property and they still called the game warden on you there is more to the story but I would think in most of these situations being polite and respectful would quickly resolve the situation assuming of course that you had legal permission to be where you actually thought you were.

I have the elite membership and it is a gamechanger.
For the most part, it is fairly accurate.

I own a property where on x has changed the property lines several times from the wrong place to the right place back and forth several times as well as changing the ownership between me and the former owner several times. My boss has a property that kept getting ownership changed between him and someone who had never owned the property before. It can't be trusted 100% but it is a good guideline. If you are on the ground and the property line doesn't seem to match up with the app, it is most likely that the app is the one that is wrong.

The app didn’t cause the murder, stupidity and a guy not playing with a full deck did. Pretty crazy!
