It will go down, but I believe over time it will continue to grind higher. If you have been out of the market for the past 100 years you have been losing money to inflation. Cost dollar averaging by buying fixed amounts each month is the way to go. You can only build wealth when your money is working for you while you sleep. Been in the market since 1984 and have seen lots of ups and downs. Dow in 1985 was around 1200. Do the math or continue to be a chicken little!

I am sure this rally can run until it doesn't any longer but I think eventually........the bond market will not tolerate what they already view as the inflationary consequences of Trump policies. The consensus is that those policies will add from 8-15 trillion $$$ to the deficit. That will push interest rates higher than they are today. If that doesn't happen (higher rates) then there will be a distinct shortage of buyers for US debt..........which in itself will drive rates higher

At that point fixed income investments will become more advantageous than equities.

If lower tax rates and regulation is accompanied by lower spending then that might change the math but I won't hold my breath for that to happen.

We are in a bit of a conundrum eh?

Eventually there will be only one buyer of US debt.

China, Steven???

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

It is an obvious fact that our government prints and spends too much money. Our debt is out of control and inflation is/was higher than reported by the government--more facts. I also believe the actual economy is far worse for average Americans than the market and unemployment numbers indicate. Both parties are to blame and I don't think our country elected a magical solution (don't get hung up on that part).

We have however had a heck of a run in the market! The last ten years has been great. Yeah, the market will drop and likely crash at some point, but the doom and gloomers would have you miss out on some significant gains. Diligently invest with discipline, be and stay informed, diversify and ride the wave until it crashes--ideally right before but nobody will time that precisely.

Of course we've had a heckuva run in the markets with the loose monetary policies of the federal reserve and government spending.

What do you think will happen if they or should I say when loosen again?

I think some will disagree with me but I'd love to see Judy Shelton replace J Powell when his term is up.

I don't know and neither do you. You call impending doom in every economic post. Eventually you will be right, but in the meantime anyone following your advice will miss out on opportunities and, instead, be paying too much for junk silver.

II see a tighting of the belt in the next 4 years. More responsibility and accountability in the next 4 years. I see that as a stronger dollar going forward.

Probably no question on the stronger dollar but that will hurt US companies trying to sell overseas. Tariffs will do nothing except raise prices for the domestic consumers here and eliminate marginal jobs.............IMO.

Judy Shelton.............so many really good choices are already dead......Friedman, Hazlitt, Von Mises, Hayek, Walter Williams .......is Thomas Sowell still alive?

Trump hates the income tax...so get rid of that

China pays Tariffs

Avg home income goes from average of 58 k to 88 k

Then the ball is rolling

China don't pay tariffs, the consumer does! Not sure where Duke traps come from? The DollarTree went to a $1.25 Tree after the first tariffs and there will be more to come, so might as well brace.

I didn't say I know I asked what do think will happen, poorly worded on my part. I meant to ask the group what they will think will happen.

I don't give advice. If I did I'd say max out your 401 if that's what your work offers. I'd say start a Roth if you can afford to and buy some precious metals. Have 12 months cash and hope like heck this experiment can continue

I see more government handouts to keep the farmer afloat. We surely learned the lesson in the past that storing grain for years is not a viable option. Farmers will again wear caps with rounded bills on them formed by peeking in the mailbox to see if that gov check is in there.

OK. I don't disagree--but even though I own PMs not everyone needs to do it because there are better ways to grow/protect money. I would add live well below your means and automatically invest so that the money never hits your checking account.
