O K....you and sniperbbb have cleared things up....I think increase in my catches is due to homeowners releasing from the new subdivisions .......having me deal with retraping.....don't know if you have listened to Chicago wgn radio sundays @ 5AM the outdoors show......the host is always talking of the devastating effects of TNR trap neuter release.....that is getting more popular with ferral cats.......on migratory game foul numbers.

Here in Minnesota, nuisance animals have to be killed on the spot. #1. Relocating them just gives someone else your problem. #2. Our DNR says relocated coon don’t know the food sources or shelter sources. They get disoriented fast and are often hit by cars, etc, within a 100 ft of where they were released.

That being said, a released y-o-y will grow up and become a pain in someone’s rear by next year.

I’ve released fox in years where there was no market for them. The farmer didn’t mind as he liked seeing them. Found this out after I released #3.

Skunks, possums and coon all get dispatched as soon as possible. Cage caught animals do get taken off site to avoid bunny huggers crying over the need to dispatch.

O K.....I see you guys point on releasing cage in barn trapped racoon, skunk, possum in my woods ......might have to look into building co2 box to fit trap, from what I'm reading......that's probably best for critter and my well being ........I think 75% of my catches are from subdivision people trapping and releasing

I was deer hunting years ago when I was way younger, and I was sitting next to a tree near a fence line and here came a small Whitetail Buck just about dusk. I waited until he was ready to "jump-over" the fence and in a "Blink" of an eye, the Buck went under the fence and was GONE! LOL. It happened so fast I never got the shot off. Who would've thought that that Buck would've gone under that fence instead of jumping over it?

Releasing a cage caught nuisance animal, in some other location is giving the neighbors your problem. What goes around will come around—and nobody likes that.

Newt Sterling pounded us with information at the Jersey Snaring School, about how low a fence could be for deer to go under. It’s pretty amazing.

Please, please, please contact your state’s trappers association and get some help. Going at this with YouTube videos, only, will not keep you out of trouble. Get some help from those who know what they’re doing!

A hole in or under a wire fence would be the last place I would hang a snare.
I would set several on the approach trails on either side of the hole in the fence.

Last nov or dec.......after a few posts by members....... sniperbb ....and another named ......wife.......they convinced me to dispatch all catches of racoon, skunk, possum cage trapped in my hay barn......I was previously releasing on my property back in woods....got to thinking........a lot of my hard to cage trap critters......are releases from the new subdivisions homeowners too cheap to pay for an ADC trapper.....dumping them off at nite on my farm.

Thanks......I'll try that.....always thought they would squeeze under farm fence and get caught in snare easier......noticed your location of Ontario......are you around Chapeau....or Timmons.......I went black bear hunting there once in late 70s...was not successful tough....thanks again

I trap about a 150 km north of Timmins.

Don't take this wrong, but the DIY route will take longer and may not be as effective as locating a good local trapper and having him slip by and reduce your critter populations. You don't need to end any lives, and you may end up enjoying this all more thru that experience, just a rambling thought after reading your situation above and goals thru this thread.

Here in WA cage trapped critters that aren't protected are to be either release on property caught on or dispatched, when you explain to the bunny huggers the animal needs to be released on their property some change their minds, if they are persistent simply explain I will take the animal eith me when I leave for the day, mile down the road break out the 22 and take care of problem

Thanks for your interest......3 reason for not using a pro trapper .....

1 Economics....on yearly average.....on my hay farm ...in barn ...I trap 3 racoons....2 skunks......1 possum.....and at culvert for equipment crossing....3 groundhog.....I've never priced it...but I think if I use a pro trapper.....nobody's is going to set trap.....pickup trap and dispatch critter....thats 18 trips alone minimum.......for 9 critters on average.......for less than 1,500 to 2,000 + $........I cannot afford....even though these prices I've guessed at are probably low.....

2 With new subdivision bordering one property line......being discreet is difficult.....tree huggers are thick ....that would like garment fur use stopped.....all trapping outlawed......and are dying to make next viral animal abuse video phone camera in hand......and would hack sites like this forum if they could

3 I'm working on a live catch cage coyote trap.....that many have mocked as impossible ......understandably..........that I feel, is workable....and possibly marketable.....that I don't want to share my idea and have it stolen

With that being said......hope this explains what I'm dealing with........although the nuns that taught me for 12 years always said my thoughts transferred to paper never seemed to be the same thing ..........LOL..............Thanks again

I really enjoy this forum website.......although it's sometimes hard to distinguish posters who are sincere or tipping bottle / can too much, or using grass.....
