I use both. Oatmeal , flour, anything bugs will get into goes in sealed jars. food saver. Buy bags on a roll. Ebay or Amazon. 12" and 8" serves me well. I bet the cutter is nice. We buy 1/4 or 1/2 beef at a time and food saver works fine. Also whole pork loin.

I, also, just sprung for this exact chamber vac. At right around $300, and bags waaay cheaper than the roll type, you can't go wrong.

I, also, sprung for a rolling cart for the added convenience. $85 so I can store everything together.

I have/had 3 of the FoodSaver machines, one a year for the past 3 years. I'm done with that.

I have used the food saver for years, only problem is JMHO bags are expensive unless you buy online , and once used , are never a good seal once washed.
So I don't bother with reusing the bags.

I'd opt for a chamber vac, mine has paid for itself in just the savings on Ice. Vac pack bags of water there nice and flat couple on the bottom of the ice chest and few on the top.

I have 4 food savers. I need 4 because if I have a lot to seal the units get hot and stop working after a while. So, you have to let them cool down which can take 15 minutes or better. I need the extra units so I can keep bagging. I'm inclined to agree with Mad Scientist that buying a more expensive, higher end sealer is smarter in the long run.

nessco is the best for me until you can afford a chamber vac. Unfortnately i dont think theres a chamber vac out there that i can stick a whole deer shoulder or beaver in that I could afford anytime in the next two decades

We use food saver alone for stuff we plan on using in 3-6 months. After we get that amount put up, we use food saver bags then wrap in butcher paper. Seems like the saver bags get brittle when frozen. When digging through the freezer, some bags get small cracks that let air in. Butcher paper helps eliminate that problem almost 100%. We just use unwrapped bags first. Then go to the wrapped stuff when we run out of the unwrapped. Usually late summer early fall.

We also have two rolls of freezer paper, one white and one kinda red. Alternating paper color each year helps us to quickly identify the older stuff and use it first.

Can the Foodsaver bags be used with the chamber vacuum sealers?

No. The chamber bags are much cheaper anyways.

The chamber bags are smooth not textured like the food savers. I suppose you could try them but I doubt they would work. After buying my chamber sealer I gave my other sealers away along with the bags.
