is there a market still for white tail deer tails . when i was younger i use to tie bucktail jigs and sell them i think i was paying 3 or 4.00 each boned and died. the family and friends have shot 9 so far so i boned them and died them

Pin them out wide for drying and clean them up nicely

all ready pinned wide and borax once there are dried will comb them out was thinking about shipping them to the glen ferry auction with my other fur

There must be a market somewhere, Grony is buying deer hides only with the tail ON.

They are also used in hair roaches, the headpieces made from porky hair that powwow dancers wear. The deer hair is used for the inside and outside rows, often dyed.

I offered one to a friend that ties a lot of buck tails, he wanted nothing to do with it preferring to buy them...

Claims they get rotten, well duh, if you don't skin open the tailbone and treat it.... some people.....lol

The tails are worth almost as much as the whole hide. I know buyers who trake hundreds of thousands of the tails.

Get a hold of Mepps I think it is, deer and squirrel tails. I think that's where we used to send them put up and dried.

The large, long haired, northern tails command a premium... short, wooly ones not so much.

They quit buying Deer tails many years ago.

last I heard was they were to be used for making G-string covers for cold weather ice fishing huts visits.

Picture of put up white tail deer tails. Split open, bone removed, washed, tacked out in a triangle shape, combed out. Only tails with heavy “fur” are wanted.

Used for tying fishing flies and Native American headdresses (roaches).

Lea furs has an ad in Nov/Dec Trappers Post, pg 23. Bottom right says they buy deer tails.
