No disrespect Mr. Wolfdog....
But a guy could buy a 300 WSM with three boxes of ammo and kill elk, moose, and deer for a year or two, for less money than you spent in the last month messing around with some weird caliber.
You are a paper puncher, no shame in that..... but some of us just want a rifle that kills what we point it at.
Good luck,
Pete Wow,now that made perfect sense to me. Also no disrespect to wolfie. Ah no disrespect taken from either of y'all So funny story I actually agree with you ! For the most part. Lol like i said if you shoot less then 20rd a year. Said it a few times when people talk about different calibers and someone wants to talk AMMO AVAILABILITY , if your one of these 5-20 rd a year guys .....who really cares ? Especially if you don't travel . Like bro, buy like 10 boxes in one go and your set for life. Your not gonna be carrying this around. Int a SHTF deal, you not gonna be using it as a guerilla when the Chinese invade, your not gonna be needing to find ammo by breaking into houses when the world ends and need to nah the most common thing available so if you get into a massive gun battle.....come on . Should have a different deals for that already set up and waiting. Your gonna use this for special occasions a few times a year....mabye... might run out of ammo in a few years if your really busy and worst case they stop making factory ammo..EVEN THEN the cost of custom loaded ammo ...isn't crazy terrible Me , I like to shoot way more and longer then the average person so . Its like my dad. Me and him are polar opposite. He HATES "wasting ammo" and as long as the gun can hit a five gallon bucket ( or better yet a beer can) at a random distance he sees no need shoot it anymore or confirm zero until he misses something. Like when I built him his 6mm ARC he kept talking about how he wanted something with good ammo availability...till I just cut the bull he shoot slowly 5rd a year and he has the Internet. The 50 odd rounds unloaded him will probably last him till we toss him in the ground honestly Me I wanna shoot my guns I wanna know each one of them , I wanna know how they kick ,the dope , what they like the best I WANT TO tinker with them a bit . I want to when I get on that thing to actually kill something I dont even think about it within 300yd . And shooting 20rd a year ...well id lose my mind even if I'm killing stuff. All my shooting isn't really a need because honestly I can go out get any gun made int he last 10yrs off the shelf have it shooting a 2-4" group at 100yd and kill something just fine , lest not fool our selfs here lol. Easily 70% of hunters do not need sub MOA. . But it's something I really enjoy doing But also because I shoot so much I tend to avoid stuff that uses alot of extra powder , more expensive bigger bullets , and if I can't find or buy brass ...or parent cases that a reasonable price ( reasonable for me is I'm not gonna feel like I lost a few bucks if it falls int he grass and i cant find it) it's just out the window for me. But again I shoot more in an afternoon for giggles slapping steel and punching paper then most do in a year so ....also don't live around. Bears, lions , elephant and the like so don't need a lot of big boomin energy

I just wouldn't personally nowdays. Just an expensive lil deal..brass is hard to find ammo is like $60 a box Other then it being a short action don't see much benefit over a .300 win mag.... Then again I'm not much of a 30cal plus guy.
Buddy has a sako 300wsm and just getting components to load the dang thing is such a chore. But I guess if you shoot less then 20rd a year though it Just paid 24 a box...no biggie. Where the heck did you find that ?! Last we where looking it was $50 a box AT THE LOWEST! Dang guess ole orange man is working over time for the firearms world

West river Rogue if you can find 300WSM for $24 a box you should buy all they have. That's not that popular of a caliber overall. I know for a fact 7mm Mag is $35 a box here at Wal Mart. My brother has a 7 Mag and that's what I paid when I got 2 boxes for him. At $24 a box that's what 30-30 is going for here.
I don't own a 300 WSM so I don't need the ammo but it seems to be more popular that the other ones that came out at the same time. I've heard that it's recoil is milder which would be right up my alley and I'd put a brake on it too. I don't like getting pounded.]
The 270 WSM is one that I know 2 guys have them here and now they're running out of ammo because you just don't see it on the shelves. If you order online the last I seen was $5 to $6 a round. There isn't enough difference in the regular 270Win vs the 270WSM to matter from what I've seen online. It's not as bad as the 243 short mag or the 223 short mag which I don't even know of anyone that has those. I can't imagine needing a brake. Mine is so easy to shoot and I don't consider myself a he-man.

My brother in law has one in a model 70. He’s a WY guy typically shoots an elk or 3 a year. I load the 180 gr Barnes for it and its a killer. We tried the 165 SST and he didn’t like the performance on elk. 180 grain pills in the 300 mag are straight, can’t say it on Tman….

The 300 wsm is a fine caliber, parts are not hard to come by, and they are a killing machine if you do your part. I have no issues with people being inquisitive and seeking knowledge. It’s just if you truly don’t know, you don’t have to post an answer. You tube experts abound nowadays, listen to those that actually have and use one.

If my first post was talking about killing potential, energy, BC barrel life , how bad it is , how good it is yadda yadda... I'd agree But when I legit just spoke on my experience just trying to get components/ammo at the time to help my buddy with his... That's not, not knowing something, that's just speaking on experience in a particular sphere. This was like in January. Couldn't find any brass that wasn't surer expensive like ADG even then it was a pain to track down . Go ask all the f class guys over on accurate shooter who live and breathe .300wsm. they where having. The same issues. No local gun shops had it in stock , the one a few hours away that did was charging $60 a box of 20rd. Online was still about $58 a box and up. We could find .300 win mag components and ammo about everywhere for $30 for 20rd at the time . Everywhere from hardware stops to bass pro to Walmart. Hence why I said id, Personally just go with a win mag over a wsm. Finally got some brass from a great member on here. I spoke from my experience on the matter in a very particular sphere. Feel after a few months of trying to get ammo and components and struggling at the time I'd be able to at least she's my thoughts on THAT part of the matter.

I had a Tikka 300WSM. I used it for elk hunting in Colorado. I liked the caliber and killed several elk with it. I used a 30-06 before that. I killed more elk with the 06, though prior to that. I sold the Tikka after I quit hunting elk. IMO, the 300 is a little strong for deer hunting. I prefer my 06 for deer.
