I have had my share of surgery on this old body and open heart I thought was one of the easiest. Not a lot of pain, was out of the hospital on day 4. You can walk and use both arms to carry under 5 lbs and keep moving. Knee replacements, shoulders, crutches and not being able tp use your arms or hands was way worse for me. Be glad they caught it in time and saved you. Good luck from and old timer.

Thanks! I've been trying to find out how bad I will be when I get home.
My classmate had open heart last year, he said there were three drains in his belly, he said it hurt really bad when they pulled them out, sounds bad.
Hopefully everything goes well, thanks everyone

So when I get home can I prepare small simple meals for me and my wife?
I am her caregiver after her stroke 2-3/4 years ago
Did you have three drain tubes in your belly too?

Prayers for you. It's amazing the non-invasive things they can do with the heart with all the new technology.

Wife: That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert, doesn't that embarrass you? Me: No, I keep telling them it's for you.

I know , maybe if I only needed a valve repair it could be up the artery.
I don't understand why they can't do robotics through the ribs instead of splitting you open

Taking the bacon is a low blow. grin It is amazing that they can’t do the stuff through the rib cage, it’s like the nano bot technology I remember when that was coming about and cutting a person open was going to be a thing of the past and I haven’t heard anything about it in a long time.

I see the surgeon in Sioux falls Wednesday, consult and more tests, I just want it fixed! Even though it will suck for a few weeks

After I saw your post I spoke to a friend of mine who had open heart surgery for a valve replacement 7 years ago. I asked him what he thought about the whole procedure? He said he was apprehensive prior to the surgery, which is quite normal. He was sore for a couple days after the surgery, but not nearly as bad as he expected it would be. He has an office job and went back to work 3 weeks after the surgery. He felt he could have gone back sooner, but the surgeon told him not to. He will have to take Warfarin the rest of his life. Other than that, he said he was really glad he went through with it. Had lunch with him this past Tuesday. His diet hasn't changed, he pretty much eats whatever he wants.

That sounds good, I was told four days in hospital,
I could probably do my office cleaning job after a month or so, but the carpet cleaning I use 35 lb machine and a 110 lb machine, I bet it will take a while to heft the big machine into the back of the truck.
Glad it went well for him
I think I can heal faster if someone can help me get into my hyperbaric chamber until I can zip it myself

Looks like open heart surgery on Dec 19, home Christmas eve.
He said the way he does it I should be able to drive and work after 3 weeks, he said I will be told six weeks, but plate and screws he uses shortens the time.
He said I should come out good because I'm healthy, he said most people he wonders how much time he is buying them, they are so fat and unhealthy.
He said sometimes things look ok on tests and outside, open them up and oh sh_t !lol he talks like a regular guy not an educated snob

Thanks! Surgeon thinks I will do good, a tech told me he is taking a job in Arizona soon, he's probably moving up!
Sounds like he's a good surgeon.
He said he will staple me, then screws and plates, he said they will tell me six weeks of recovery, he said probably three weeks, hope so
