Just got back from Maine deer hunting and running a small line up that way. Ran 10 boxes and a couple otter sets. Didn't get a thing on a 10 day soak. I think it was so windy the whole time, the scent dispersal was all screwed up. Don't know for sure. Seen fisher and marten while hunting, so they were out there, just not in my boxes. Lol.

Ermine are sure moving and stealing bait.Had open box opened up by a fisher or coon would be my guess.Also had one box, trap and all stolen.

I can feel your pain. My buddy and I were up there the first two weeks of the season and only got 2 Martin and a fisher..Got some weasels though. We did good last year, the weather was way different though. We had hoped to outdo last year. Even took some footholds, hoping to get some bigger fisher.

Do you know who Joe Holland is? He’s a YouTuber who’s got a cabin in the north Maine woods and he’s been posting videos lately of catching marten and fisher. Looks like pretty cool country. Hope it picks up for you.

Bruce are you running pans or trigger wire? I was having issues with marten and weasels stealing bait, switched to pans and it has been mitigated.

I think Bruce said he was using muskrats for bait-and not beaver-probably a big part of the problem.
Also marten are quite suceptible to over trapping,especially in fragmented habitat.In some cases they never come back.

Besides giving off more odor in cold weather, are there other advantages with beaver for bait over muskrat for catching martens?
