Funny how the private buyers who buy before the auction are all doom and gloom to get fur cheap-then boom price is up at the auction, lol.

Maybe you should get license and pay more for them. You could teach all them buyers a lesson by paying more.

You can lampoon Boco all you want, but I've seen that exact scenario play out many many times over my trapping career. I don't know what will happen in March at FHA; but from all accounts the felt hat market is still booming even if their current needs are taken care of supply wise.

When I started putting up beaver a few falls ago, I was expecting $4-12, then before the auction there was some optimistic predictions. I sure was surprised watching my first auction. I assume it’s like watching a horse race on TV when your lots come up…lol

No, I suspect that cumulative inflation has caught up with the higher end cowboy hat wearers just like with most regular folks. I just rotated some stashed canned meat products and that price for that particular item last night is up 18.6% since 2021.

I suspect things will get a whole lot worse in January through March as some of the "props" keeping the stock market and banking sectors up the last year or so will start disappearing and people of all kinds will find out how much a good portion of the global economy is in the crapper.

There's no point in trapping early beavers, wait to trap when they are really pretty and wait to sell late this year. I'm betting high quality skins will be higher later. sorry southern guys, but you had a few good years at least.

Local guy was paying 18 a pound all last year. He's paying 15 now. 17 percent drop

We're used to it down here.

We only know what price we'll get when the buyer looks up from counting and grading and tells us.

I still don’t get the “sold by the pound”. I can’t recall how many I had, but I stacked a few put ups and said “that’s $20!!!” Not a bloody chance!
Maybe this year will be different…..lol
