Taking my granddaughter, she killed an eight point last year, her first deer, now she is talking bigger, always easy to talk before sitting for hours.

No where near you. We have some managed deer ground. And we need to harvest a few does.

Thanks Beav. Good luck to all.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Good luck, shoot straight, be safe and take a kid hunting if you can. Will be out with my daughter this weekend trying to get her second deer this year!

Got The Boy and his buddy up at camp again this year, both bubbling balls of energy sizzling with anticipation. Best day of the year, probably better than opening day for me. Good luck all!

Best of luck to all! Our camp has changed quite a bit over the last few years, but I'm countless beers deep watching Escanaba in da Moonlight, something I'll do every year before opening day. I'm lucky to be a 4th generation hunter on our 80 acres in Langlade County, purchased by my great grandfather back in 1938 for $125.

Hope to see some pics of your harvests through the season and maybe share my own if I'm lucky.

Just got things done. My son and I were hunting about 15 miles apart. Today at 4:20 I shot an adult doe. At the same time he shot a yearling buck. We needed a 4 wheeler as mine was over a quarter of a mile off the road at the end of a muddy chisel plowed field. His was way back in the woods so we used the 4 wheeler there as well. Took some time to get to each but now we have deer to cut up Tuesday.

River was rising and still rising so we didn't set camp. That meant we had to drive down to the landing at 5:00 both mornings. Only deer I saw was the one I hit with the truck this morning. So it goes.

Meanwhile, Trader Vic just got the green light from his doc to go deer hunting after shoulder surgery this fall. Scored a dandy buck on his farm.

I wondered if you were hunting the islands Muskrat. I saw one truck and trailer at the landing off county C. The Wisconsin has came up a lot in the last while after being almost shallow enough to walk across most of the year.

We made the decision middle of last week after that horrendous rain to not set camp. In the 35 years off/on I've camped in the bottoms, we've been chased out twice. The last time was a Saturday afternoon and the water was a couple of feet from the tent, not vertical feet. Last thing I want to do is pack out a 12x17 wall tent with wood stove while standing in water . . in the middle of the night.

And it's still coming up yet today, though it looks like upstream it might've crested by now. And the Mississippi looks like it's starting to back off.

Oh well, and now the deep freeze next weekend.

I have yet to see a deer. Very little shooting in our area.

Son and I wanted to get done quick so we could head out duck hunting. Got excited when he got a nice 8-point on Opening Morning. Got a little wary when we found a tennis-ball sized hard tumor in the liver. Today while skinning and quartering the buck we encountered very big, ugly, stinky tumors oozing/draining/spewing what looked like lemon pudding. Thought about posting pictures but you need to smell this to truly appreciate it. Found them in the backstraps too. Quartering and processing was done, except for hauling it to the carcass disposal.

Sooooo...the deer hunt continues,,,,,duck hunting is put on hold despite the fact there is only one week left.

Fortunate to harvest this guy at 645 opening morning. Nice little sticker off one base. Not much shooting in SW Manitowoc County for an opening weekend. Will get out later this week for a mature doe to help fill the freezer. Good luck to everyone still hunting.

Took this guy opening morning along with a doe. Saw seven deer in the first hour three of which were bucks. Even got my 85 year old father out to enjoy the morning. Beautiful weather.

We are a bit selective on our management land. I'm a brown and down guy but I have to go by the rules on this ground.
Never raised the gun In 2 days. Very little deer movement and very little shooting In the area.
Now I'm sick as a dog and I'm going to lay up for a few days. Deer hunting Is getting harder and harder for this old buck. The crew even hauled me to my stand on the ATV. But I walked back.
WE have a long deer season I'm sure I'll put some fast food in the freezer. We used to call venison speedy beef but now I call them fast food. I think it fits better.

No picture but I did kill a 6 pointer on Sunday morning. I wasn't fussy. My goal was to shoot a deer left handed after shooting right handed for over 60 years. That was necessary because they had to move my 3rd pacemaker from the left side to the right side after 11 years. It wasn't the largest buck but one of the most satisfying.

Good job guys! This one died on the last day of the 9 day firearm season. Good luck to those still out chasing with the smoke pole. [Linked Image]

No deer pictures for me I shot the first deer I seen that gave me the opportunity. So I filled my doe tag with fawn buck. Not a big deer but it will be good eating. Our group seen very few deer so it was my little one and my brother and son filled their doe tags. Overall it was very quiet season in our area.

Now that I'm officially handicapped my son Ranger was main reason I was able to hunt this year. What a life saver for me.

I need to take more pictures

my son started us off with a nice fat doe, still in milk first thing opening morning

I shot a decent doe Saturday afternoon , she stopped running , slowed to a walk and stood still but at about 120 yards all she was giving me was a threading the needle back of the lungs and liver so I took it , waited an hour twenty till we finished up the drive then started blood trailing , that is my longest gun deer blood trail , caught up to her and saw her laying down and finished her in the neck , popped back out to the road a half mile from where shot with the deer in tow, never more than 10-15 feet without blood and often not more than 5 dribble dribble all along

admittedly I wasn't quite where I wanted to hit , but it worked out and no meat lost , the slug sliced her abdomen open right behind the ribs

Sunday morning my cousin got a 3 point buck double lung 20 feet of blood spray behind it , then almost nothing we knew it was a dead deer and just as I found the blood trial about 35 bloodless yards from the place of the shot , my cousin who had been circling also looking found the deer piled up in some thick stuff about 20 more yards from where the blood started back up a few seconds later. it went almost strait north 55 yards with no lungs but running in the thickest of cover.

that was the most blood trailing I have done in years

even my sons doe went about 50 yards with no lungs opening morning a lot more blood on that trail she had run in with another stopped about 65 yards and all he had was a double lung threading the needle shot between trees

my son and cousin were using 12ga rifled slugs big hole in and out lung tissue all over behind shot

the deer were just tough this year.

I was using the 20ga sabots

it did seem awfully quiet for an opening weekend

For gun season, sat every day 5:30 am to just about 5pm. I get in early so any deer I bump gets back on their natural pattern or others bump them my way.

9 days - approx 93 hours ( ran into house twice)

Bucks - total for week 5 (two were before shooting hours) 3 were very small
Does - same 3 fawns and 2 does most days. by last weekend it was 1 doe and 1 fawn - of the spoiled 5

Had one non resident group of 4 does/fawns cross my field twice.

Unknown - saw a group of 6 in a field about 2500 yrds across a valley in my neighbors property. (didn't see antlers)

Highlight was watching this fawn head-butt the ice on the water tank to get a drink

Neighbors two daughters same the same group of does/fawns I watched every day. They shot a huge buck I saw before hours and they shot one of the little bucks I passed. That's all they had of a group of 6 on 120is acres[Linked Image]

My deer season was a rollercoaster ride. My wife is in a very fragile state with her heart and lungs. Several days before deer season she was hospitalized with pneumonia which triggered her bad heart into v-tach her heart ejection fraction is 25 o/o up from 13 o/o looong story short 3 hospitals later she was released the day before thanksgiving. I hunt on our land I made it out Friday with my granddaughter 2 hours in the morning and she got a nice 8 pointer . Her first deer . I got out an hour and a half Saturday. And Sunday evening I managed to get my biggest buck so far. Maybe it had something to do with all my prayers in the hospital.

No photos for us either. I shot an adult doe and my son hunting shot a yearling buck almost the same time of day on the first Sunday. All cut up and soon to be ground meat and sausage. We shot these two in farm country, one was full of corn (the buck) and my doe had alfalfa, browse and corn in her stomach.

That's a dandy. I love a buck with lots of character to the antlers.

only 19 inches inside. The one side lays out which makes it appear wider.

A lot of folks did. I even took a picture of it Monday night in front of the barn. I will admit it was a bad picture, but it was 450-500 yards away feeding in disked corn field.

Decided to go out for the Holiday Hunt to fill a couple more tags. Deer were filling the field early. This is my view after I just shot twice. [Linked Image]

And the results of those two shots. Bunch of meat for the freezer. [Linked Image]
