I've done it but only at locations I scouted in the day. I like read the land and set up the travel ways.

Where coon trails cross roads or go through culverts I prefer to set 220s at dark and pickup before daylight. Avoids theft and dogs running in the daytime

Also it can be much easier in the dark to see old tracks and old trails under the snow with a head light than it is in daylight

I guess I am not a real trapper. Always prefer daylight but check the first few just before dawn.

I useta did when that was the only time I had to do it. Only had a problem one time. One of my favorite locations is stack bottoms. I set up a stack bottom one night and could never find my set when checking traps until one day there was a fox in a different bottom. Oops, been checking the wrong one.

Im a big believer in flagging sets for that reason when setting blind sets or running a night line.

As far as identifying where to place the trap, setting an already known line or checking existing sets during dark works great. Cold rolling in the dark is not so good.

I used to set small cricks after work in the dark and check, reset in the morning in the dark. I liked it but man did i loose a lot of stuff.
