I used to struggle with this too and then I saw the light. Use machine chain instead of cable on your disposable stake. It is a game changer.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If your going to set that edge pre hook the drag.

Meh as long as you got family soft ground with a bit of a root system then sabertooth will stop them or make a trial ray Charles can see. Actually if your bird get one rige it up with 8-10' of chain toss it in you yard and just drag it and see how far you can get. grin

Sold some saber tooths and ones I make to a few guy, they don't trap so was a little confused. Ends up they used them for chaining there dogs when they need to do stuff.

When the drag hangs up a coyote won't keep pulling in a straight line. They circle and the drag comes loose in grass. After while the point can get enough stuff on it it wont dig in till it comes back off. Your out there circling in ever bigger circles to cut the track again. You can have a real interesting time. Coyotes are tough with lots of stamina. If that coyote has 10-15-24 hour head start on you, it can go a real long ways if there is nothing to tangle on. Drags are for when there is plenty of stuff to tangle in.

You need to learn to stake where and when you can, then drag and cable extension when needed. It is all part of the learning process. We have good staking ground in our Ag areas for the most part. Get a good drill and bit to help in piloting your stake holes. That will reduce your hammering considerably where needed. Until you build up your strength.

I'd prehook the drag on that edge....

That's what 80% of my sets look like.... always on drags and always pre-hooked.....

You can also just turn that loop over and poke it down the driver hole.

To rocky here for stakes. Gate going into a stackyard. Needs a couple sets. Used a drag but tied the chain to the gate post
