Lake shore property is nuts here in central MN. My next door neighbor had his summer place listed for $950,000.00 and it recently sold for $1,050,000.00. The new owner just tore it all down including the garage with living quarters above it and is building a 6,000 Square foot two story house right next door to me along with a two story, 30X40 foot garage with a basement under part of it so he can practice his golf swings on a golf simulator. The new place will cost well over a million....probably two not including the demolition costs plus the landscaping that is o be done. He calls it his "cabin". They will use it for summer recreation . He just completed a 15,000 square foot home for himself and family in the cities. An appraiser for Lake Minnetonka just told me today that n 100 foot lot on that lake goes for 4 million bucks right now. Some people have money to spend. What the heck does he do for a living?

The new owner just tore it all down including the garage with living quarters above it and is building a 6,000 Square foot two story house right next door to me along with a two story, 30X40 foot garage with a basement under part of it so he can practice his golf swings on a golf simulator. He and his wife own a successful chain of 8 restaurants in the twin cities area. This "cabin" will be sitting 60 feet from my house changing my view and my way of life. They only intend to use it on weekends in the summer.

I worked on a project that sounds like this. All the cabins are being replaced by huge houses now. Land is out of reach. I have no idea where all the money came from but the level of wealth is staggering

The entire point I live on has most of the homes replaced with multi million dollar structures that are not even the principal dwellings of the owners.

Taxes are ridiculous right now but I can handle it because of my low income, I get a pretty substantial real estate tax refund every year that covers over half of the yearly tax. I like living on the lake and have enjoyed my home and the chain of lakes I live on for over 51 years now. I have actually lived on this chain of lakes for 72 years since I moved up here onto Nisswa Lake when I was 5 iin 1951. A lot of people have told me that this guy will try to buy me out. It's a good thing that he has a lot of money.

The housing market is crazy right now. Prices are still high, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll come down anytime soon. With that in mind, I decided it was a good time to buy. I ended up choosing Aspen, mainly because I already know the area well, and I have a few friends living there. One of them moved recently because he liked the place so much. I also think this is the right time to invest in real estate because, over the years, prices will only go up, and you can make a decent profit. By the way, there are still properties for sale in Aspen. If anyone’s interested, you can contact Morgan Jabusch (I worked with him, and he did a great job) here: www.summitcoloradorealty.com.

Why do you think most of the "Alone" shows are in Northern Canada Because Canadian women have less teeth that hockey players? Is that it?
I have nothing clever to put here.

I was in Walmart today and I was just noticing how many people between 65-75 who are working there. I don't think they are doing it because they are retired and bored. It occurred to me that a lot of them probably paid off their house and acreage or lakeshore property years ago, but their property taxes are outrageous. Some people bought lakeshore homes or acreages in the 70s and 80s and now their property taxes are twice as much as their mortgage was when they bought these places.
Seriously, On a small home with 150 feet of lakeshore on some of these more desirable lakes, the property tax payments are $1000-$2000 a month and these are people who just worked a job their whole lives so most of them don't have much more than social security for income.
I'm basically in the same boat, my property taxes have more than tripled in the past 10 years. my taxes have doubled in the last 8 years and I feel for those you described. Yet they chose not to save and invest and spend their money when younger on other things. Simply investing when they were young tell retirement would have made them a millionaire but few do so then cry when they are old. sadly they were fine and living well before the crazy inflation gives them no choice but to go back to work. There is absolutely no reason most Americans can't retiree with a million dollar investment account other than 1 they didn't get the financial education 2. they chose to spend instead of save and invest worse pay interest using credit to spend even more. So they are broke and working due in large part to their own choices in life.

I'm trying to expand my ranch and I'm hoping it happens. I have offered a deal and proposal that is unheard of but hasn't happened yet. I do believe it will happen at some time.
I would never put a price on my place and there isn't enough from anyone for me to sell. More money sitting in a bank would mean nothing to me or do anything for me. My dirt is priceless to me but has 8 to 9 times itself if sold.
