Reminds me of a picture I see when I was buying my beagle pup. After seeing the picture I called the guy up and ended up buying 2 puppies instead of one after seeing now my beagle Lyle bawling in the picture. [Linked Image]

Down here in these swamps, hunting deer with hounds is what they do. Every pickup truck here has a dog box in the bed. All have coolers, modified dog water tanks, and a few have benches or chairs mounted on the boxes.

It is a long tradition.

That is an awesome pic...
Went out to the public land this morning with a buddy pheasant hunting.
2 guys pulled up with a couple of labs and 3 boys around 6-10 years old.
All of them carrying Red Ryder BB guns, it was nice to see the youngsters out with their dads.
Guy told me that he is going to make it a family tradition to bird hunt every Thanksgiving.

Yep....that's what the benches and chairs are for.

What else would they be for?

Yes I do I think deer hunting is boring, a hound would make it fun and more of a challenge if they have thier ears pen backed running.. I'm more of a turkey hunter, so deer hunting doesn't really interest me honestly

Really cool pic. Grew up dog hunting. I hope I never hear a dog again when I’m on a deer stand. You spend 15 minutes hunting and the rest of the day hunting the dogs. Most people/ clubs don’t have enough land to contain their dogs so they mess up all the hunting on neighboring property. The presence of the dogs really disrupts rutting behavior and generally makes the deer more nocturnal.

Bruce those are some good looking hounds. Bring a few down to southern Missouri and we'll hunt a few days and leave with less hounds and more money

Not anything like you describe down here.

Back to back large dog hunting clubs....some over 20 thousand acres are bordered by other dog clubs 10 to 12 thousand acres. Large timber company land holdings...100s of thousands of acrrs of contiguous pine forest.

All hounds have GPS tracking collars and most can stop a hot deer race by beeping the collar. Dog knows a shock is coming after the beep, so they stop and come to road/truck.

A buck is ran miles and is back in same area within a day or 2.

This is deer dog (and bear hound, and hog dog) country. They could care less about nocturnal deer movement. Them hounds will make 'em daytime movers.

I agree there’s nothing wrong with it if (big if) you can do it without the dogs winding up on neighboring properties, and it’s legal. I loved hearing the dogs run until I hunted an area where dogs weren’t regularly run and saw a buck chasing a doe for the first time. Some people are hound men. I get it. My Dad was one. It’s more about the dog and the race to them than deer hunting.

it would be really cool to go hunt deer with dogs , been the dog since I was 12 , not allowed to run deer with dogs here but kids , you can start them as young as you want .

At my Beagle Club's field trials, we'd occasionally get southern guy's come up, just to look for Deer runners to take home.
