What’s the reason for that? An age thing?

Just curious so you must just make sure the inside spread is wider then the deers ears before shooting?

Yes Bruce. Always nice when you have a buck that won't turn his head! I had to let several bucks walk last year because it was just to close to tell. Trying to stay legal.

I do not like this Reg at all but we must abide by it. LOL. I don’t know about your area but in my area I haven’t seen where it has served it’s purpose.

That's a result of human nature kicking in.
If a feller is told he can't shoot a deer until it has X number of points and yay wide, by God he'll shoot every one he sees just above those specs out of spite mostly.
Before those regs came into play, that same feller would likely let that marginally "legal" buck walk and wait for a biggin, or a cow horn, or a doe.
Those kind of choices result in bucks getting older in the future.

Michigan enacted minimum antler point restrictions by county a couple years back. At our family property a buck has to have a minimum of 3 points on an antler to be legal. As a rule, we shoot 8 points or better. It has made an enormous difference the last couple years.
