Thx for the replies. I’ll dig into it more later and post results.

as I understand it, he's talking about repurposing an old 240 circuit to be two 120 circuits, meaning it will no longer be 240. Depending on what he does in the breaker box (he mentioned "separating" the breakers), it could be easy to misunderstand it later on create the fire hazard.

I know what he’s trying to do. But if he’s got 4 wires that’s not an ac circuit a 220 ac plug only has 3 terminals. When hooking to the breaker you wrap the white wire with red or black electrical tape. Then hook green wire to ground bar in panel. Easier way to do it is put in a junction box and separate the legs there. Install 2 single pole breakers but use a bonding clip as previously mentioned. Sharing a neutral can be done like that

Jbyrd I actually thought of doing that.

What color wire under wire nuts. That’s the feed
Wire nut on right looks like a red wire. Pull completely out. If not there is a junction box somewhere that wire color changed

Make sure that plug is dead if breaker is off. Lot of electrical guys make up pig tails on plug before wire nutting to circuit. I always wired plugs straight to home run
Is that a 50 amp or 30 amp breaker?

No red in outlet box.
Two 20 amp breakers.
I’m going to have to dig more. Those two feed may go to a j-box in the attic or something.

Found what I needed to know. Black/red from breakers go to a j-box in the attic. So should just be able to nullify the red, connect white->white, run the ground and be good to go.
