Remember he was president for 4 years before and imposed tariffs don't think it affected the fur market. When President Trump was in office, the fur market was mostly in the tank already, except for coyotes that was pushed by a Canadian company. And Cats.

My fur is Canadian. Thank god we never went tracibility. My thoughts also Tariffs are a tax when a product is imported into a country, so you want your fur to be American Dirt. So not sure it will have much of any affect on a export business model like fur. The exception being if other country's retaliate and put tariffs on American goods being imported into their country. So lets say the USA puts a 25% tariff on all imports into there country from Canada, this would have absolutely no impact on trappers selling fur at FHA or to GFW. Fur buyers in the USA buying at FHA and then importing it would be charged a 25 tariff(tax) to bring that fur into the USA. How that would exactly work is a nightmare to figure out when American and Canadian fur is inter-sorted in lots, so would imagine it would be applied across the board. Not sure why more taxes are a good thing but hey fill your boots. Last time the states had extremely broad tariffs was before WW2 and there was no income tax, so tariffs where used as the primary means of funding the government.

We are talking about a broad tariiff by china on u.s. exports. Easily avoided by exporting first to FHA. I'm a free trader, not a fan of tariffs or threatenhng them unless it is a free trade issue.
P.S. I for one am getting real tired of geopolitics crushing the international fur industry.

Just curious to what smarter people than me figure will happen to our fur market if retaliatory tariffs are imposed on goods we export (including fur)? I'm mainly thinking of China of course, which I believe is still the dominant player on the international fur market scene.
This is assuming that Trump makes good on his promise to levy heavy tariffs on incoming Chinese goods. Unfortunately, China is pretty much "OUT" of the market this year regardless of Tariffs. Their residential and commercial real estate has lost 50% of it's value in 7 years. so that put private people underwater with most mortgages, which in turn puts a big damper on most folks desire and ability to make a luxury purchase. I would bet this will turn around at some point, but it will also very likely take time, and I wouldn't care to speculate on how long that may be. Tariff's are generally placed on goods coming into a country but not going out. I bet the Tariff threat is a negotiating tactic to make deals on other things, like eliminating the Tariff's the Chinese have on U.S. goods coming into their country that already exist.

Still, when you see who's in the buying room at the FHA auctions last year were they not mostly Chinese?

How about stopping the flow of caravans up from Central and South America, stemming the flow of Fentanyl and Opioids that kill an average of 100,000+ Americans every year on average. 154 different Nationalities coming across the southern border That the border patrol identified (so far), although most Muslims come through Canada.

Reason is China has cheap labor. It all funnels down to the bottom line of the end product's manufacturer. Big business is loyal to no one - look at the major U.S. companies who LEFT the U.S. home soil and went to foreign sweat shops to improve THEIR bottom line and thus killing the product's quality. Buy a good product once - or a cheap product multiple times. Keep America in America. Absolutely! There is value in having your own country retain it's manufacturing capacity. I doubt I have to go into a long winded detail of this, at least for most of us.

Yes i understand that trump is violating his own trade deal to use tariffs like sanctions to try and get two friendly trading partners to do what he wants.
