I should have snapped a picture this morning. In addition to running my coyote line I’m doing a badger complaint for an irrigation district not far from my line. I checked it at 0630 and no badger. Got out on the line checking coyote traps and got a call from the district foreman asking if I had checked this morning. I assured him I had. “Well you got one after you left this morning.”

I finished checking where I was and ran over. Sure enough. There’s a badger that wasn’t there 2 hours earlier. And it had done a pretty good job of tearing things up in just a couple hours. I dispatched and reset. I doubt I’ll get another there but I’ll give it another week and then pull my traps. The foreman was pleased to have the dike digger gone.

Couple WV catches.

First bob kitty of the year. Hopefully the first of several. I left my phone at home so didn’t get any pictures in the field. Caught on a bobcat dirt hole with EJ Kelley’s GB1 bait and Mac Hankins Western Castor.

It was getting late in the day when I put this set in last week. Didn’t want to take the time to build a cubby. So I did a walk through rub set and a quick dirt hole. My cat dirt holes are at the bast of trees usually where there’s a v in the roots. I like a thick canopy to keep the snow to a minimum. I used a #4 DLS bedded in the duff and blended just enough to hide the springs and hard edges of the jaws. Pan exposed and trap cabled to a nearby tree. The castor at the base of the tree above the hole and GB1 in the hole.
