Why are shotgun slugs so hard to find when there are so many people that deer hunt? Tell me about it. I thought that with a lot of people switching to straight wall rifles that the stock of slugs would go up.

if a guy needs a box of slugs and bought a box there would likely be plenty, if a guy needs a box and buys all 13 boxes on the shelf it makes it real tough on everyone who follows. I find something that a gun likes and performs well, and stock up before it is discontinued. Lightfield slugs, anyone? CCI SGB .22s have been discontinued and restarted a few times. First time production resumed, I bought " enough".

I buy online all the time from nanchez shooting systems they just need your communist FOID card and drivers license copy and no problem

People are nuts and that doesn't help. When something is scarce people start to horde, if a guy needs a box of slugs and bought a box there would likely be plenty, if a guy needs a box and buys all 13 boxes on the shelf it makes it real tough on everyone who follows. Myself I like to be prepared & not flipping out because I can't find things when I need them. Like the guy that buys just one box and does not have any when its not available. I had a guy begging me to sell him some .22lr to take his kid hunting a while back when there was none to be found. I gave him a few boxes so his kid got to go no other reason. Having more than enough on hand also allows me to be picky when I buy since I'm not pressed to get things so I can wait until it's a good deal. When I see good deals I load up. Maybe some think that's causing supply problems but I find those complaining tend to be those that don't plan ahead and stock up when availability is good and prices are great. Instead they spend their money ey on other things. They have the same opportunity to buy when I do but don't then cry I'm a hoarding when they can't just walk into a store and find what they want. Lack of planing and bad proprietys on their point Is not my fault. They should take accountability for their on actions or lack there of. Remember the last Trump slump. Companies had ammo on sale and added in with discount codes line an extra 10 off 100 spent 20 off 200 extra and free shipping I was getting cci standard velocity for 4.5c per shot. The best discount toped out with 2k rounds so I would make 3 or 4 orders to get the best price the same day. Anyone and everyone could have done the same so what didn't they? Maybe they didn't want to drop the cash Maybe they can't remember the last several times things were not available Maybe they just are not people with foresight. So to those people I say suck it up and live with your choice of not planning ahead. Don't blame me for your failure take accountability for your actions.

I bought a .69 caliber lee roundball mould. Real close to 1 1/8 ounce. Bought a smoothie slug barrel. Minute of deer to every bit of 50 yards.

Related, if you have the ability to reload, Lee slugs are easy enough. My loads were firing 2 inch groups at 20 yards thru an improved cylinder smooth barrel with just the front bead sight. I use the 7/8 oz slugs. Said to be more accurate. Mine have velocity in 1,300 fps range. You don't want to be standing in front of it when it goes off. For loading buckshot or slugs, I prefer the clear, new, never fired Fiocchi hulls. That way you can tell at a glance what you have. For slugs, also helps that the wads for those hulls do not have the vertical ribs in the petals. Slugs won't load into a wad that has the vertical ribs.

There's being well stocked then there's just being selfish, if you walk into a store and clean a shelf out a week or two before season so your "well stocked" then your probably just selfish. I learned in boy scouts to be prepared. Why would you ever run out?

I agree that I believe companies that load the slugs probably do limited runs. Then it's how many does anyone dealer want to buy. Of course closer you get to your deer season it's going to be harder to find most popular loads. I shot Brenikie when I was younger and just using a shotgun for everything including deer hunting. I now own a dedicated slug and it was first set up using light field slugs. Because I waited to close to season and that was all I could find. I usually just shot plan old Remingtons.
I'm like Danny after chatting with him I load my own So I'm also shooting the self made 69 cal round ball. My Winchester black shadow scoped slug gun is easily dead deer at 50 yards. Won't pass on easy shot at 75.

with so few states requiring them now with strait wall cartridges and WI going rifle they make less.
you need to get a few years ahead on them , they are better priced and available when it isn't deer season.
how far are you from WI and what do you Need?
a few years ago 20ga were really hard to find 12 weren't much better ended up buying some new-old that a small local dealer found 30 year old boxes at current not sale prices I started buying a few here and there as I saw them all through the year after that.
try and be 2+ years ahead on everything for ammo to avoid the ups and downs and shortages.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I learned in boy scouts to be prepared. Why would you ever run out? In my case I was setting up a new gun. Many casual hunters out there expect to be able to grab a box of slugs a week or two between season. Why horde hunting rounds just before season? Doesn't make sense to me, have a bit of courtesy

Same in the southern zone of NY that use to be shotgun slug only in most of it. Now mostly all of it is rifle legal , so little shotgun slug demand in NY . Hunting accidents the same or in many cases have been lessened.
