Been reading stories in some old fur fish game from the
20s and 30s ..a lots stories of the California trappers.

kenny, you got FFG's from the 20's and 30's? How did you manage to get ahold of those? Sounds like that would be some fun reading.

Lawrence Frederick (Slim) Semmler was born in Oregon, USA. In 1930 he arrived at Herschel Island where he set up as an independent fur trader. Within a few years he expanded his trading operations into the Coronation Gulf area. There he met and
married Agnes Norberg, who was born in Old Crow to a Gwich’in mother and a white father. Together they started a trading post and general store at Bernard Harbour.

I took that from a locally produced book about the timeline of the Inuvialuit people. Its called Taimani: At that time. Other early traders were former whalers that stayed when the whaling industry slowed down. The fur trade brought people and supplies north for sure. Muskrat and white fox were sought after furs.
