You mean “Empire of the Summer Moon” subtitled “Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History” by S. C. Gwynne?

If yes, great book, I’m currently reading it.

Eh...wot?

Somebody, on a different "Book" thread, was asking about kids books. I remember being thrilled with Haskells, "Two Logs Crossing" about a boy goes to the New York north and traps with an Indian. I remember it as a good book for kids. Anybody else read this?

There was another thread recently on Trapperman. Somebody was looking for kid's books. I remembered one from about second grade. It was Haskell's book "Two Logs Crossing" about a youngster trapping with an Indian in upstate New York. As I remember, pretty good. Anybody else read this?

Jack

Hadn't thought about those stories in a long time.

That just unlocked a "core memory"

Same as several said, I used to be a huge reader, I can still plow through hundreds of pages in a day. Just don't seem to have the time, plus I need cheaters to read book anymore.

As far as best ever, that's tough. Almost impossible.

Some good ones though that this crowd may appreciate:

The Story The bible written as a novel is up there

SItka is probably my fav Louis Lamour

Endurance - Lansings book on Shackleton/Antarctica

Death in the Long Grass - Capstick / Africa Hunts

There truly has not been a movie adaptation, in my opinion, that does it justice.
It’s only second, in my opinion, as one of the best stories ever written.

One of the interesting things about that book is the author got every geographical detail correct except one. While it makes no difference in the story, it was nice that Rawls did the research to get things correct. I always appreciated that. I got a brother/sister pair of hounds (blueticks, not redbones) in my teens that I named Dan & Lady Ann. I added the "Lady" so it would be distinctive when I called her. Brings back some fond memories.
