My Mom was at a local store looking for a Christmas item. She was talking with the cashier about it and learned they didn’t have anything like what she was looking for. She received a phone call after she was home from a gentleman who overheard her conversation and recommended a store that might have what she was looking for.

It could just be a nice gesture at the time of year those things are more common, but it does seem a bit forward to me and I too would be concerned about how the name and phone number were obtained.

Probably just is a little shy about approaching a person in person.

I would definitely rather be approached in person in a public place than have a stranger randomly call me like that. That said, I get calls from strangers daily, but that's because anyone around here that burns wood already has my number and finding a firewood guy that's not feeding a habit (other than trapping)is very difficult, so people tend to refer me to friends and neighbors once I show up on time with good firewood that actually measures up.

I know I could call a bunch of people whom I know casually from living in the same small town a lot of years

I have a pile of contacts in my cell phone for people I may not have even talked to in several years. parents of kids my kids when to school with and they are a few years out of school now.

NO. A strange man contacting a woman at her home via a phone number she didn't give out. Maybe years ago that would have been ok, but not nowadays.

It would have been simple for him to just tell her right in the store where that item was that she was looking for. Three seconds of info. on the spot.

Everyone thinks the place they live in is "neighborly and trustworthy", until it isn't. All the towns that are reporting unheard of events and crime , when they didn't for years.

I wish things are more like a Rockwell painting , but chancing a woman's safety just isn't in my book.

I don't really see an issue if it's a small town and everyone knows everybody, which sounds to be the case.
I think people are way too paranoid in this day and age.

Yes.

No but a family member her side does and he would do anything for her without question. lol
