I am going to get a new Polaris ranger or a can am defender
Who has what and what do you like about them?

Personally the Honda pioneer is my favorite. It has an actual transmission instead of being belt driven. But between those 2 choices, Polaris. I ran a can-am for a few weeks last summer, it felt like a cheap toy

I wanted the Honda pioneer for that reason but they don’t have enclosed cabs and heat in a 6 seater for winter

I have a 2021 hd10 defender with the cab. Love most things about it. Good heater, comfortable ride and wide stance. Surprisingly leaves less track in the mud than my 4 wheeler and gets through deep snow way better than the 4 wheeler. It has tons of power and because of the wide stance 55mph down our back highway feels stable and like I’m driving a car. Great engine braking and does not give the feeling of cab roll even with the cab adding 500 lbs. I’ve taken 5 bull elk out of some fairly steep terrain without feeling top heavy. I studied up for years on utvs before I bought it. I liked the Honda but they didn’t have a factory cab at the time but you asked about Polaris. I’ve been around friends with them and most were fine. Some had engine and issues with the belt driven transmission. I talked to a mechanic and said between the 2 Polaris had more problems so I went with the can am. The only issues I’ve had with my machine are minor. If you have the cab the power window switches get a little corroded and I just unplug and pull it apart and clean the contacts. I’m 4000 miles into this machine and I’m very happy with it.

The one I used had a cover over the whole top, and the back seat folded into a covered cargo area, it was trick. Also had paddle shifters and way more power than the can-am (you had to put the can-am in low gear to climb any kind of hill) the pioneer got around awesome even in 2 wheel in high gear. Given my experience with them, I'd be willing to make my own enclosed cab for the Honda. Not trying to be a Japanese shill, but Honda has never let me down. I have 4 of their generators, and a 200 outboard on my boat, zero problems

Lots of experience with both through my work and its no comparison...CanAm hands down. They have ample power and torque...much more than any Polaris or Honda Ive ever run. I also personally own a honda 4- wheeler..its been a solid machine, however, their UTVs have not impressed me. The shifting is very abrupt. Honda was very late to the game in UTVs, hopefully they get up to speed with the others soon. Competition is good.

...Also, there is a reason that most ultralight aircrafts run Rotax engines...the sky is the last place you want to have engine problems.

I went with the 800 can am defender. No complaints. Power windows and factory heat, plus windshield wipes are a real pleasure

Its like asking Ford or Chevy. They all work and they all have issues.

Where is a good site for canam? I don't remember the year but is the commander 1000 lost all electric and dash is totally dead.

I have the ranger xp1000 open cab. The reason I went with Polaris was I knew a few people that had them an all of them had been problem free. Mine has been trouble free as well. In my opinion the ranger is loud, I despise the gear shifter. You’ll think it’s in the gear you selected but will grind until you barely move it to where it wants it. Park doesn’t mean park. It will move in park, what I’m trying to say is it doesn’t lock breaks or anything I’m aware of when placed in park. Had the strap break on my trailer which was from the trailer to SxS. Strap broke an SxS slammed the trailer gate as I was going up hill. I had to install a aftermarket parking brake. I would definitely get the closed cab. Not for the heat or ac but because of the dust that rolls in the cab. That’s doing 30 mph down the driveway. Get stopped a pat your pants a dust flies. Never checked out cam-am because there isnt a dealer close to me. This is my opinion, an I have less then 300 miles on mine. [Linked Image]

x2. And don't get a pioneer. Our Honda Pioneer 100-5 I believe it is has had lots of tranny issues.

Watching. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on either a Can-Am defender or Polaris ranger XP 1000 before the end of the year. Sounds like Polaris made some changes between the 2024 and 2025 model. Specifically easier shifting.

I'm being quoted 21.5k out the door for a 2025 Polaris ranger XP 1000 6 seater. I've seen some 2024's advertised for around 18k. They do not come with the winch or roof.

I’d look closely at the dealer. Around here the best service gets my business. I used to be Arctic Cat, but no more. But I think they’re all good machines with pros & cons. Never had a Honda because of the dealer here.
My daughter bought a brand new Honda dirt bike and I asked if she gets a free jug of oil, key chain, sticker or something. “You get the Honda name”….lol. Dealers been a stuck up swine dogger with terrible customer service for ever.

Thanks for the feed back so far, after looking and being in both of them in person
I think we are going with the can am defender max, Seems better built and the seats are
Much more comfortable. They have less fancy options but that’s fine with me. Going one more
Time this week when all models are back in stock to find one we like. I sure wouldn’t mind finding a used
One but not many out there and needs done before the end of the year.

They make Polaris here, I hear they have a lot of mechanical and electrical issues, Honda used to be good
