Caught one like that but caught another one that appeared to of been born without any tail at all, fur just wrapped on around at the end with no sign it ever had a tail. I call those divorced beaver's.

Sometimes dogs and cats will chew off a leg or tail on their young during birth. Could this be what has happened?

Probably born that way. I once caught one that instead of a rounded tail, the tail came to a point.
