At least you can trap them. They are some fun to trap.

Yes they are fun to catch, cool critters I love the different colors, the dark chocolate one's being my favorite...I did catch one true Canary about 15 years ago I got that mounted,it's at our sporting/hunting local store so other people can see it..

I guess my point went way over your head Karen.
You could catch 2 marten while trapping beaver and other fur without any extra expense.
Beaver ponds are fur pockets for marten fisher and cats.
Doesnt make sense to drive 35 miles every day for a couple weeks checking a bunch of marten boxes to catch 2 marten, lol.
Just trying to help you out but carry on grumpy.

It wasn't over my head,I said we don't do it for the money. When they allowed 5 per person and they were going for $120 to $180 us funds we did it for the money. It's a 9 day season now,and I donated most of my furs to our MTA Tanned fur project. We don't have to check our marten sets every day,3 day checks for body grips.I have a couple of bobcat sets with footholds and a few snares those need to be checked daily, again I wish we had a 48 hour check on footholds starting Dec 1st and a 3 day check law on snares, but that will never happen.

I wouldnt say a 3 day check on snares is out of the question. Its something the MTA could possibly be looking to try and get this coming legislative session. Thanks for donating your fur to the tanned fur project!

Boco, I know of people who will blow $1,500 USD to kill a few wild long-tailed Chinese chickens in a 5 day period. Not everything is about money coming into your pocket.

Don’t worry I edited my mistake regardless we had a good check and shot seven pheasants in Pipestone…. Had a fun week and it cost me 7.50 for Pheasant stamp and nuttin for my trap license and small game license… life time licenses are great… and this thread is worthless without pictures

You can thank fellow bear hunters for the reduction in tags. Any more the DNR spends as much effort managing hunters as they do the resource

So what's the excuse for not moving forward on the NR issue that has been voted in favor of by membership that it's just never the right time to move forward with?

Good morning,-3 with a high of 15,no sun today.2 more checks, the marten were moving yesterday finally,we should have a orange blaze or two today, the 2 cats will be coming through pretty soon I would think, maybe another Christmas cat like last year...I know they have tried for a 3 day check on snare's and each time it gets voted down, would be nice if it would pass one of these times. As for the NR we voted it through about 9 to 10 years ago, sure would be nice if that would pass also,if I remember right trapper voted 5 to 3 on that, lets get that through the state too, then 2025 would be a very good year.Have a good day everyone, here's to full body gripes, foothold with tight chains and tight cables....

II agree with this. I was getting drawn every other year before. But the problem is where I hunt is north in the big state land forest. There was a bear bait every half mile. Now we don't see any other bear hunters and the hunting is great. I think I would rather wait a while longer and have good hunting than try to fight the crowds and all the wised up bears.
Well good luck with the Fisher and Martin everyone, the last two days!!!
