Pulled our traps today, all empty ended up 1 marten and 1 fisher both females. Weird season not much sign maybe too much logging in our area. I left some bait out for trail cameras see what we see. Had fun, hope you all did too. Congratulations

I have a question. Bob cats a fairly recent addition to my area. Does anyone think they would out compete marten for the available prey species? Nope

Never had as much Cat activity on our land as this last year. Have at least a whole family. Mom and two young still traveling together and a large Tom had is the boldest I’ve ever patrolling within yards of our cabin. Their tracks along our drive work up our plot hound to no end on daily walks. Just can’t see not having them around for what little they are bringing now. Cats around here are usually 30 lbs + but have poor bellies. The increase in cats has really lowered the fisher pop though.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Same here when the lynx population crashes we get an upswing in fisher. And vice versa. Fisher cant compete with the cats for rabbits in the deep snow.

Took the kid hunting today. Score, Nick 2, Steve 0.
Seen a marten running around about 2 o'clock. Afther this one, I've now officially seen more marten in wandering in the field this year than the rest of the years of my life put together.

I haven't set any cat sets yet.
In the process of stringing out a weasel line and of course got to shoot some more partridge.
Hopefully fish Thursday on Red Lake, haven't been there since the late 90s.
