Bought a Gamo years ago for big $. Was most inaccurate POS I ever owned. Would not shoot 1.5" group off sand bags at 10 yards. For years every time walk past my workbench would see and cuss that gun. Told a hillbilly at work and he had to have and sold for $40. Came in on Monday to tell me what a accurate gun I sold him. Everybody idea of accuracy is different. Now wish had back for dispatch gun because was powerful. Would probably try to dispatch a skunk and graze its testicle getting sprayed in process.

I have a Beeman Kodiak 25 caliber, spring piston air rifle I bought 25 years ago. It cost as much as a deer rifle at the time and is heavy, has a big walnut stock on it and is like packing a magnum rifle around. But I used it for several years Bobcat hunting with hounds and it was absolutely deadly. I haven't used it in years, although I did buy a new scope for it last year and sighted it in. Then put it back in the gun cabinet. Plenty accurate and plenty of power, it would shoot 37 grain pellets (my preferred pellet) with five shots in a ragged hole you could cover with a dime at 25 yards. It killed a truckload of bobcats for me and one coyote at 30-40 yards. If I needed a quiet dispatch gun I wouldn't hesitate to use it, but a 22 pistol sure is a lot handier to pack.

For those using an airgun do you earhole or heart?

This^^^ .25 is a good step up from .22 when talking airguns. Any .25 caliber airgun/pellet combo can easily handle dispatch duties.

Head shooting...25 is a dome cracker. For heart shooting I prefer .22 LR with the segmented bullets.

I was thinking of going the air rifle route myself. Mostly coon dispatches, occasional coyote. I trap some places that are in the city limits and checking around 0400 or so, last thing i need is a loud dispatch weapon. Im using an old revolver with .22 CB Shorts now.

I bought a Game years ago in .177. I bought it when .22 shells were hard to find and expensive. It does the job on everything from coon to coyote no problem. Still carry it for dispatch. Its not designed to be a bench gun for me just mainly dispatch.

You have to take the advertised fps with a grain of salt as those numbers are with crazy lightweight pellets, not anything you would use normally. My diana .177 get about 850 and the .22 gets around 700 fps and they both get it done with no problems.

Most give two numbers, one for lead pellets and one for alloy.

I have killed both coyote and 'coon with a .177 Gamo Black Shadow.
If the shot placement is right , there will be very little blood, if any.
I have photos on my FB page that illustrates this.
