Are you using lure on your sets or just the beaver meat? I googled around a little bit and watched a couple videos and I seen a lot about gusto

Some use lure,I have no use for bottled lure except for beaver.
Bait provides all the lure neede, sight lure sound lure and smell lure.

I use lure on marten sets most of the time, but I'm not perfect I forget to bring it along sometimes, and I still catch marten. But I figure it can't hurt my chances of pulling them in, I use loud stuff because they're mostly sight hunters so their smell isn't near on the level of a canine

I use lure. I make my own, but I used to use Gusto, it is kind of the go to lure as far as marten are concerned. Gusto is a good marten lure, but it doesn't hold up to moisture well, you need to either figure how to protect it from snow, rain, etc. while still doing its job of spreading scent far and wide; or reapply every few days.

A good chunk of bait will catch a lot more marten than lure, but a loud lure can help draw them close enough to come check out the bait. For the short amount of time you're going to be trapping I would get me a bottle of lure and apply it liberally (unlike canines, you won't spook them by over applying lure) and reapply whenever you can't smell it before you get to the set.

Well if you guys can go with or without it I'll probably use it on some and use none on others and just try to cover as much ground as I can, I plan on making a trip up there this summer to do some scouting, what should I look for to know I'm in the right area where there's fisher and marten

I've found them hard to track without snow, but I have seen them running around on the ground or climbing trees when I'm hiking in/out of logging units. If I know I'm in an area with a decent marten population, I set more on habitat than sign. Look for patches of bigger timber with a close canopy (protects them from most birds of prey), and ground litter (brush, down trees, rootwads, etc.) as that's where they mostly hunt.

There is habitat where there are predominantly or only fisher (south eastern Ontario) and there is habitat where there are predominantly marten.(Northern Ontario)
There is also a type of habitat where they overlap and both species do equally well.(central Ontario)
A lot also depends on the sucessional stage of the forest.Marten do best in the older sucessional stage boreal forest and fisher do best in younger sucessional stage boreal forest as well as mixed forest type of habitat.
