Didn't ever do it consciously. Was taught on the farm to drive every thing on and off the road and to do it correctly. I was also taught to be the mechanic who worked on what I and others broke down.
I believe I do save fuel unconsciously just being taught a young age to SHIFT properly which would involve both types of shifting depending on changing circumstances

When I had my truck.on the road,
Just paid attention to speed more back then.

Now as a company driver, I drive go go go.
I'm paid to be safe but quick as possible too

If your driving in town, stop start accelerate stop slow down speed up, fuel consumption is going to be high. unless your on the highway 90 % of the time its pointless to worry about fuel consumption

I drive the speed limit or slower. Stay off the highway if I can. Im happy to get on a water or sewer line job. You just sit with the truck off. Or blacktop, wait in line at the plant then wait at jobsite. Owner operator so Im the one that pays for the fuel. Get paid by the hour not tonnage. No need to drive fast and put people in danger.

Typically tried to drive with my head more so than with my feet.......... having said that, you know we like 'em heavy and long here in Michigan in doubles and multiple axle trailers. . So, you pull as smooth as you can

Sometimes I miss it-- then I see other drivers around me and I un-miss it.

It can be done driving the same area, learning the lights and avoid the big mo breakers. You can control a lot about that except for the phone watchers and the overly courteous individual that waits for the stop sign at the 4 way to turn green. lol

You won’t perform a miracle but you can get an extra mile/gallon avg. doesn’t sound like much until you’re sweating running out. lol

I bet they use a lot of fuel hauling to dirt jobs. A handful will split their tracks but most take the same path till their axles are dragging.

Don’t you know that the front axle is a dozer blade and they’re just maintaining the road.
