Honestly the snow wasn’t the problem. The Road crews in Kansas aren’t equipped to deal with the snow like they are in Michigan.

Highway snow is taken care of pretty good. On major routes. Drifts knocked down in a reasonable time. Most years drifts are not a problem even for a few hours. On major routes. County roads are iffy. Takes county crews awhile to get to them all. Especially roads with no one living on them. Some roads dont get maintained except every couple years or so. Had a storm in the 80's bulldozers were used to open some roads. People were snowed in for days. Had an ice storm late 90's I think where power was out for a week or more.

Freezing rain/ice is worse than snow.

Been warm so far. Below freezing at night, barely, and 40-50 during the day most days. May be like trapping in Hawaii this year. Its 22F right now at 230 A.M. where I am.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

It looks like there will be a couple of rainy days before we get there but I am hopeful that we will be able to drive on the un graveled dirt roads.

Everything feels real now as I plan for my last night at home before the trip. The truck and trailer are loaded with everything but the kitchen sink. (wondering if I should take that too! lol)
I packed 140 gallons of waxed dirt which is in gallon sized zip lock bags. Some are in buckets but most of the bags of dirt are in coolers. We will empty the coolers as we use the dirt and the coolers will be used to bring back frozen fur.

We plan to leave my house at 2:00 AM and arive at the lodge in the late afternoon tomorrow. (12-31-24)

Good luck it starts to freeze hard on Thursday and stay cold for at least a week so you shouldn’t have to deal with the slop freeze and thaw stuff… I am in central so just south of Washington county..

Just coming back from my first Kansas trapping adventure. Steep learning curve for this Minnesota boy but had an absolute blast. Great people and great weather for the two weeks I was there. Catch average was quite impressive too. Sort of make trapping back home down right boring! Good luck guys and safe travels!

Following, really enjoyed your write up and pics from last year. You guys went through a lot of weather with that much snow. Good luck this year.
