I learned my lesson years ago about putting skunks up fur side out. I had had the bright idea that I would show off the beautiful spots on my civets one year. I ended up getting less for them at an OTC sale then the sale average for civets. This was them I think:

Spotted one's and weasel are the only two furbearer's protected here. What skunky parts of the state we do have they are small and jet black with a white cap on their head for the most part.
Not my circus, not my clowns.

Wiss Miss is correct on selling them put up, same way I ask for them and the belly not cut out, though belly cut out is not a deal breaker if the white is great !
It's very easy to see the white on them with fur in, which is what I'm after as well, but heavy fur is still needed and making sure they are prepped scraped and put up correct makes a whole lot of difference for me
Not being able to look at them in person !
Thanks to those who have contacted me or may, I'm always interested in regular large white skunks, as well as other pelts like nice coyotes, no coarse fur or short fur, color doesn't matter as much as the fur does, badgers, no raccoons got all I need of them
And spotted skunks as well if put up properly, as well !!
Edit to ad, I'm a crafter. I don't buy a lot of fur not being able to see it first hand but most I have bought through this forum has been great this way, however first come first serve, when I reach my cost limit I'm done, whether or not the season is over or not, you can still ask if I'm buying or not no harm, and you will know for next season as well !

Moscow Hide & Fur advertised earlier this year that they were looking for spotted skunks w/ feet on and would pay $40 Worth near double that if handled properly.

20scout, yes thats wide enough on that one, sometimes they have more white white on the back as well ! I'd pay for several that look like that or better !
humptulips, you are correct, those spotted skunks are very easy to mess up if one is in a hurry to work them over and they spoil quickly as well, some times it is wise to contact your buyer on them to see if they would take them solid day of catch, especially Taxi people for their work, I found this out here before I started my craft work!
It's just cheap insurance to make some preparatory findings on these little fancies, every one I know would like one mounted

I bought some frozen whole last year though and 50% were unusable for taxidermy. If you leave them in the trap more than two days they will go green. Even under that sometimes. I see more problems from trap damage in ones I buy then you would think.

I assume the second civet was from the Dakotas? Beautiful work, as always.

I stay away from Rock piles and Wood piles (because of skunks), so I don't catch many skunks. But they might fetch $10.00 now?

Skull and fat if you have a market So $40 for a nice skunk properly handled I've been skinning them and saving essence since I was a teen. Don't understand why people toss or avoid them. Easy critter to skin flesh and put up. Just take your time on the first couple to learn how to skin where the pods are and then your in the money.

Between the fur, quill, fat and skull/carcass I averaged just under $90 each. Both had 2 Oz of quill each.

On the other hand, speaking of quill..it takes on average about 8-10 civets to fill a half oz bottle. LOL
