I live among Amish here. Seeing Amish children side by side with English kids. It's embarrassing.

I bet it is embarrassing as those Amish children are workers.

My oldest daughter is a nurse. Works at a clinic partly funded with federal dollars. She told me they were inundated with Amish people getting paperwork from them to register to vote. I don't remember what she called it. They had no birth certificates, SS#'s, driver license or any other I.D. This is in S.E. KS. I think voting for trump was a commonality for all their communities.

The Amish in America call non Amish people the English, no matter where they are from.

Interesting. I suppose most alaskans refer to the L48 as "America" as if we aren't a part of it. Admittedly sometimes it feels like we aren't

Around my area, the townships are subbing out codes/building regulations to larger firms and really busting stones. Ingress/egress window requirements are being enforced big time. Many Amish build houses for other Amish and use smaller windows, to save $ only to have codes enforcement make them redo….

Those tiny homes might have ingress/egress window issues, among other things the government will jam them with…

160 it depends where in Alaska you're from. Growing up in SE I always heard people talk about going down to "America" because they needed something major, or got referred to a doctor in Seattle, went to visit family, etc.

Don't have permits here, Or codes. Just freedom.

I wish I had a picture of the doctor Seuss house to show them how beautiful unbridled freedom and no inspections can become lol

I remember when many of the places out here had press plate roofs. The only one left that I know of has a press plate and blue tarp roof currently.

Yep, there it is. That's why codes and inspections shouldn't exist. You should only be limited by your building materials and skills

People dont want shotgun shacks in their communities.
It lowers home property values
That is why there are standards.

Lower property tax? I am all for that…….
