I agree. Been saying that for years.

No I am not saying that monies sent to the Ukraine are way better than supporting our vets, but our history shows over and over again that we have been neglectful, manipulative and politically not inclined to offer veterans the opportunities or support they really could use. A lot of our politicians have been elected by persons who never have served have no family members who ever served or feel the military is just another government institution that wastes monies and that is one reason in my opinion the minimal is being done. The Viet Nam veterans Assn. was given a start by two rock musicians who donated concert revenues to start the organization. Bruce Springsteen and Bonnie Rait. No societal help, no government help and no support from the other vet organizations. So I base my thoughts and reasoning on what has been done over a long history here in the USA and not on picking out just recent things to harp about. Based on what I have seen politically the billions spent supporting the Ukraine most likely would not have been spent to support veterans or veterans assistance. There just is not the support in our modern culture to do that and it will get less over time based on the historical trends.

Bryce,

This has been so painfully evident for such a long time, for me too. Infuriating also.

My father , a decorated WW2 fighter pilot, and I welcomed the Vietnam boys home . We waved the banner of welcome and love for them.

I am hoping, finally, at last the VA will be whipped into shape by those you just described, fellow veterans who really need to be in control of this and make sure vets get the highest quality , pronto care , hassle-free , this country can muster.

Years ago, a very good vet, Ronny Jackson, WAS to be heading the VA affairs , he would have done well ...but John TESTER (spit) did an underhanded nasty thing to get Ronny out. Big bellied Tester , looser, has bragged about how he helps vets throughout his pathetic career, when all he did was bleed money that should have gone to vets and the VA , to squander and keep for himself.

He is just as you described. Never served yet showed he didn't care for vets by what he did to Ronnie, an honored veteran. A typical leach dem , he is.

Finally, Tim Sheehy, an honored Navy SEAL is senator. He readily employs fellow vets in his career as firefighter and surely will do so in handling VA matters too. At last, a very good vet in charge of VA care. Tim told Tester in a debate , " While I was fighting in Afghanistan, YOU were eating steak in DC." Fat Tester turned red and spluttered an angry, toothless reply. A gnat on a bull's horn. He showed how much he claims to "care" about vets, the way he disrespected a Navy SEAL...

So with so many veterans in office now, or will be, Im really hoping many things will change post-haste soon.

Vets should have the best of everything. Never pay any tax on anything. Nothing. And none should ever be homeless. Those empty bases should be fixed up and turned into a productive community for veterans , homeless or otherwise , run by vets, in all the classic ways they feel good and organized, just the way they did in active duty while on base.

We need to be proud of our vets . I'm not referring to the wars they were in, but the brave men who sacrificed so much. There's a DIFFERENCE. Any man who didn't serve and is judgmental towards them or those of us who appreciate them , needs to move to a country that has no Constitution to uphold their religious freedom, speech, making money, hunting/trapping, the right to defend themselves , or any of the rest of what Americans hold dear.

"The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) spends the fifth most of all federal agencies, accounting for 5% of federal spending. VA expenditures have almost tripled in the last 20 years, from $70 billion in fiscal year 2000 to $200 billion in fiscal year 2019, adjusted for inflation. This makes the VA the second fastest federal agency for expenditure growth over that time.

The veteran population in the US is shrinking and getting older, increasing the costs for care. The number of veterans decreased by one-third from 26 million to 17 million from 2000 to 2019, according to the US Census Bureau. Veterans went from 9% of the population in 2000 to 5% in 2019."

Pretty sure things have changed already? confused

God Bless our veterans. Proud to call them hero's.
