My enterprising boys saw an opportunity and rounded up business shoveling snow. To add scale they let them know they mow yards as well as other things also and picked up several more yard jobs for the summer. Word will spread about how good a job they do and I expect they will end up with more than they can handle. Good thing they have a ton of equipment to use. It's how I started when I was younger and teach me how and when to scale up. Looks like this is going to be a lot of fun.

I bought a push Rotary mower to start my jobs. My dad said that won't last long

Next day I asked Mom if I could use our Gas push mower grin

But I made more and faster money Shoveling roofs off come Winter- especially 1978

One of the boys got a rotary mower a few years back. used it some but went back to the gas powered equipment.

wife just sent me pictures of them out shoveling and they have 3 more jobs to do yet so far and have done several already. They will get a taste of money and develop business and people skills for life. They should develop their first very profitable small business within a few years. I expect they will grow to the point they will be hiring their friends and scaling it up within a few years. A step I never took instead doing all the work myself.

Sounds like.my son. Started at 10 and doing 3 different things, he worked the auctions on the weekends helping with food, and running tickets. Also helped the elderly carry items to thier cars and made plenty of tips that way.
(Taught him how to count back change) loss art..

Also he was taking care of the neighbors dogs as they were on vacations
, he made big bucks doing that. People go nuts over fur babies.

And he sold eggs from his small flock of chickens.

Now if I can get him to save his money or invest, instead of spend it lol we will be good to go.

My daughter, different story she believes she is a princess!

Kids need to start working early or they likely will never develop any desire to work. The best kids grow up working with their parents. Good job getting your son's on the right track.

Well they had 2 cancle one was a guy that was going to have them do a elderly newborn for them but they are still in the hospital. My wife said the boys had decided they were not going to charge for it when they heard it was for older folks in need but he canceled when they didn't get to come home yet. Another lady son came by and did hers so that was great to hear he was taking care of mom. yet would have been nice had she let them know before they drove over there.

Boy the internet sure makes things fast. Pictures were posted of the boys working along with a thank to the community for helping the boys learn negotiating and estimating skills and thet they were available if needed. That was shared and within 4 mins my wifes phone was ringing and they had 4 more very quickly.

She is having fun with it. The boys should sleep well tonight. And I'm back to small tractor shopping again. Now I'm thinking maybe something with backhoe attachment since adding light landscape would be simple.

re-invest half of everything is a good thought process

shoveling today for the snow blower of next month

the tractor to follow that. lots of operators never want to leave the cab so walks and stairs is important stuff.

our scout troop did walks and stairs for the American legion and old people all over town that could find a plow place but that wouldn't do sidewalks and steps we did it as community service but accepted free will donations.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

A snowblower would be a great investment and time saver, one to run the machine and one on a shovel for the steps and clean up... can do twice the jobs , so twice the money....work smart, not hard!

correct but we typically dont get snow of any amount but maybe 3 times a year so would take a long time to pay for it.

They had a shovel handle break. Great lesson on taking care of your tools so they can take care of you . They are running out of daylight and keep geting calls. So not only finding out about replacement cost but also cost of down time and having extras.

Great lessons they have the habit of not putting tools away maybe this will start to get that changed

2.00 per driveway ...right Vinke

That's all we got ..had to split it with my friend.

But at 12 years olds that dollar could by a coke .10 cents

Table talk cherry pie for .08 cents ...Funny bones .10 cents

And a pack of Pall Malls for .35 cent...and have money left ovah

just to clarify they have had a few mowing Jobs and doing odd jobs for people. But this is going to be the first time they make several hundred each in a single half day. Much more motivating then.spliting $40.

looks like they are calling for another 6" Saturday. May be time to go ahead and get that snow blower and or tractor after all if a snow blower can be found now.
