I've been looking at the 348 Winchester round but don't know anybody that has any experience with one.I love lever actions and the model 71 definitely caught my eye.Does anybody here have any experience with it?

I do. I have one and it’s a force to be reckoned with inside of say 150 yards.

Ammo and brass can be difficult to find at times but as Mike said, it is a heck of a mid range rifle.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I have used one close to 20 years and like it, bad deal on cost to shoot it. Bison and bears is what was fun with it.

Very capable with deer, all colors of bear, and moose.

You should. I would, if I could.

The Model 71 shoots very nice. I am not familiar with any other rifle offered in the chambering.
Going down the internet rabbit hole to look now…..

There is also a single shot that was produced, but what’s the fun in that?

I figured it would be overkill on whitetails

Less overkill than 45-70. Dead is dead.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I’ve shot plenty of deer with mine, as did grandpa up here. He was a transplant from the UP so I figure he chose the rifle with sound reasoning. He wasn’t a bear hunter and did shoot a few moose with it. But, moose die by the 22-250 and 243 easily…

.243 is my absolute favorite. If I could only choose one cartridge for everything, that would be it.

Mine would be a 25-06. Laser beam zappo death.

I like the .25-06 a lot also, I just like the commercial availability of .243

It is funny that I have heard that from many AK guys and yet it is far from my favorite deer caliber let alone moose and caribou.

Guys here like to actually hunt, not shoot 1000 yards off the back of a SXS. So at 150 yards and less a .243 will do the job every time without ruining hides or meat. I even use .223 a lot, I'm shooting for the head so they always fold right up

But, when a large animal needs smashed, in the moment. There is no substitute for a lot of foot pounds of energy.
