We have hard water even after our filter. coffee pots last about a year to year and a half. Running vinegar through helps a little temporally. But today it took 45 min or so to get a pot made and I cut it off with 2 cups if water still in the tank.

Anyone have anything else that they run through them that speeds them up? I'm going to start looking at new ones again but hate to get a nice one again when they dont last long. May have to just get the percolator out. .

Filter your water again with something like a brita filter before pouring into the coffee pot or add a faucet filter. Eric

Perc makes terrible coffee.. Go french press or pour over if you want better, less maintenance needed coffee.

Vinegar is fine if you use it regularly but when it comes to serious cleans, you need to get descaling solution

Use the vinegar full strength, start the clean function let it get hot then stop it and let it soak a few hours....If the minerals are dissolved in the water then extra filters won't help...for your hard water do it every month to get ahead of it...
My problem with coffee makers is the coffee isn't hot enough, pretty sad I have to nuke the coffee fresh out of the pot....
Probably get the cheapest mr coffee they make, at least you won't be out much when you have to toss it....

This is what I do and I buy the cheapest Mr Coffee or similar type I can find. Most the time Im lucky if I get a full year out of mine. That is making only one pot in the morning. Just decided a cheap coffee maker every year or less. Still cheaper than going across the street to one of the 3 coffee shops, I can walk to now.

We got one of the newer Keurig slim models with the "Stronger" button on it and really love it. We also own several press pots, Mr. Coffees, percolators, etc. but this little Keurig is really fast and good.

When we got it, well before Christmas, we also got a Brita filter because we only use our well water for coffee. We only refill the reservoir from the Brita and it was just last week the "De-scale" light came on and Wonderful Wife did her thing with pure, undiluted white Vinegar. The unit had not skipped a beat and is back to work. We drink a lot of coffee and there's a lot of water that goes through it.

Diane says the citric acid powder, used for canning works better than vinegar. She also said the descaler made for Keurigs works even better.

We bought a distiller and she only uses distilled water in her coffee makers now. I don't drink coffee.

I have 2 of them.

Been running vinegar clean settings all morning. while waiting got out the percolator. percolator took about 35 mins and a lot more than a pot.

Ran 2 batches of water through the coffee pot to get out the vinegar. AND now the clean light is on!!! Lol not before I cleaned it.

All our water for consumption runs through a pro pure filter system. only ting I can find them would be better would be reverse osmosis. May get one of those down the road.

Ya, To me mine is right up there with a good press pot when using very good coffee. Both better than a drip pot

We used a perc pot for years, on the stove or electric... they're slow, and the coffee is ehh, especially the electric one, stove top can burn easy....I don't have time in the morning to wait 40 minutes for coffee to be made....That said, drip makers are only just ok too, and not hot enough. Doesn't seem to matter what brand.

Perc over extracts the grounds and just gives a terrible bitterness to it.
