My home owners insurance doubled last year because other people choose to build their houses one foot above sea level, along a river bottom, or in a hazardous fire prone area with no defensible space. Why should I be partialy responsible for their choices.
I saw that at one time an estimated 400,000 people were out of power. As of this morning 67,000 customers (not people) are still out. I'm thinking about all of the electric cars not being charged and all of them that have burned up with batteries to be disposed of. Another environmental disaster.
As for cost. The dwelling is long way from the cost to replace. THE COST to replace the junk we have accumulated in 29 years would way out cost the dwelling. House cost might be 150 -175 grand to rebuild. BUT clothes, jewelry, guns, ammo, cash, furniture would cost a fortune. 3 adjustable beds , TV's, with a living room and family room all with complete set of lazy boy everything. washer dryer stove refrigerator freezers, I just had a beef killed that's 2 grand It adds up quick.
Sounds like there are 10s of 1000s uninsured in the affected area. If my house burned down would the government step in and help me? What's the difference?
Same with the barrier beachs, nice views! but when a hurricane wipes them out they want assistance rebuilding, or building up the beach in front of their houses...
You want to live there great!, but rebuilding should be on you, cause it's not if it's destroyed, but when.... better yet, take a one time buyout and go somewhere else, be a lot cheaper for the tax payers in the long run...
Thats why it ticked me off when Biden said the Federal Government was going to cover all the costs of firemans wages and other first responders,,debri removal,,temporary shelters ETC.He told them spare no expence,,we got it covered 100%.In other words,,I get to pay for it,,even though I dont have a fancy house in Malibu.

The government only helps uninsured property owners in a government designated county.
Biden only said 100 percent to stick it to Trump, Biden won't be there to follow through with anything, he knows Trump is going to have to clean up, along with all the others things he is doing last minute to make it as difficult as possible in transition !!
I can't imagine living so close to another you can exchange breakfast or dinner meals out you windows, a tragedy it is, could have been mitigated better for sure !!
Will take years to rebuild and as always it will never be the same, no way it ever will be, some of these people lives will never be the same, and to find out if it was actually started on purpose is heart stopping !!
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !
Beautiful, huge mansions look much less impressive when an out of shape, middle aged, white guy could jump from roof to roof through the entire neighborhood.
Bunch of rich peoples houses got burnt up.-Oh Well. They have lots of loot to rebuild. Big boom to the economy.
And a lot of struggling people living in a high cost of living area. All those rich people need service industry people to work for them.
Then there is replacement of destroyed infrastructure. Will cost tax payers and I would guess home owners insurance will be like Florida and either so high no one can afford it or companies will no longer offer it there.

This is an interesting video. California governor newsome and elizabeth warren get to keep 4% of the donations to help fire victims, for their campaigns. Though only making up a little over 1% of the population, 4 of the top firefighters are lesbians. 330 some experienced firefighters were fired for being conservatives, who refused to get vaccinated. The woman in charge of making sure fire hydrants are full and in working order, gets paid $750,000 a year and only checks the hydrants once a year in the middle of January, after wild fire season has been in for weeks.
Illegal aliens, who weren't even effected by the fire are taking the money, food and other supplies donated to help the victims of the fire.
California governor newsome is spending 50 million in tax money to prevent President Donald Trump from deporting illegal aliens charged with crimes.

...add up. Latest reports 150 billion dollars in damages, 12,000 structured damaged or destroyed. Do the math; that adds up to $12,500,000 per structure. Of course that includes some businesses and a few schools. Regardless I have a hunch the State is fishing for a huge Federal payout.
Stop and add it up. Most of those houses were over 5- thousand to over a million each. Don't forget public buildings , at well over 5-6 million each. Lets add in cars and other vehicles , streets that are no longer stable , clean up and the cost of rebuilding. And you know the politicians will get their 10% cut! Plus it' happened just before Trump takes office. A big hole to dig out of!
One home that burn't was valued at 125 million, Average home in Bel Air is just at 5 million. I can't feel to sorry for them, if you look at a map of areas of the country that voted for Harris , it's ALL along the ocean front of the entire west coast. Most of the land mass of Ca., OR, and WA.,is full of red voters.
