AS few fur's go into the pipeline annually it won't matter if you sell them or ditch them. Look at the early 80's when fur was rocking and rolling, MILLIONS of coon were sold annually. What's selling now, 200-300 thousand if that? Market ever comes back for them you will see the trappers flood the market with them. Will always be a supple IF they ever get a DEMAND back for them.
Last possum's i sold brought a dime and ive never skinned another one, lol.

Around here it's grapes and not corn. Some of these grape vines are 100 years old. You can't just plant a different crop. When grapes pay zilch, and they have many years, you just plug away and make what comes in until they pay better and sock that money in the bank. A lot like coon I figured grapes would be good money, I just paid $18 for a little bag of them

The chinamen aren’t going to “use something else”. They’re getting more coon than they can use now for next to nothing. Why would they switch to something else?
I agree that I’m accomplishing nothing, but it isn’t costing me anything.
Your key word there is "now" .....China is the only major buyer of ANY coon! If they don't need them why are they still buying? What makes you think they will continue to be? Why would they switch to something else? Oh I don't know.......history is a pretty good teacher. Do you think China is immune from the anti fur anti trapping movements? I'll give you a clue..they aren't . So yeah..whether or not you trap coon is up to you, but not trapping them is not going to drive prices up....only demand will....and there is little to no demand......like it or not...China controls the coon market.....US trappers don't. Artificially trying to drive demand by limiting supply is a losing battle....for trappers.

Price is where supply meets demand. Price goes up if there is an increase in demand or a decrease in supply. If supply decreases and demand decreases price will not move much.
However, Nobody here wants to believe in the law of supply and demand.

There are no coon here locally. I imported a few but people didnt much care for the colour or texture of the fur.I managed to sell some articles I made out of them but none of the local fur sewers wanted to work with coon. Beaver fur is king here. Personally I like working with coon fur.

I’m pushing 60, and I’ve seen many a peak and valley in the coon market. I’ve never seen it down this long. It’s getting harder to stay optimistic about ever having even a decent coon market ever again.

An average crop of 7 ton to the acres will keep your farm running. Last year the farm got an average of 3 1/2 ton to the acre and I didn't calculated the average $per ton but it wasn't high .The grapes are mainly conconds. Used primarily in the juice and jelly industry. Not table grapes. These are slip skin grapes
