The only place I have found the lag bolts don't work is in the middle of road beds.you won't drive a cable stake there either tho.thats where drags come in if I feel like I haveto set right in the road.if I can set off the side of the road, the lag bolts usually don't have any problems.but sometimes off to the side won't work because of standing water or mud and such

I'm not trying to change anyone's minds or the staking system they use.if it's working for you why change.im just showing my system for anyone who maybe tired of hammering re bar and pulling it,or for folks tired of buying cable or pulling chain stakes.my stake puller Is the same drill I put em in with and use to auger dirt holes.i don't eaven carry a hammer on the trapline anymore

I use wolf fang with cable and super stakes with chains. Once the ground freezes, I may have to leave them into spring to get them out. If I am going to use the same set the next year, I sometimes leave them in the ground until next trapping season but will cover them with dirt depending on the location.

I have mostly sand here, but it can be very compacted at times. When I use wolf fangs and ready to pull traps, I simply use my 2" auger dirt hole bit and carefully drill down in 2-3 places far enough to loosen the dirt near the anchor (sometimes you can feel the auger touch the anchor). At that point they can usually be pulled by hand.

Other times I may simply use a spade shovel when I'm in sand. I still use re-rod, especially in frozen ground. Easier to pull.
