$95 average, 92% clearance on 79,000 skins! That is a great improvement. Encouraging.

Barguzinsky ..……. 68’907

Barguzinsky silvery .………..6’271

These are the high dollar ones. Prices for mine may be half? Getting close to barely profitable level.

There is no way that 68,000 out of 79,000 skins were actually from the Barguzin region. That label is just a marketing scheme so that the end users can label the garment as "Barguzin Sable".

We have seen the same thing take place in North American fur auctions. If they think they can wedge a good quality skin from a lesser section into a sort for a better section they will push that skin upward.

There are many sections of sable in Russia, some sections of sable look nearly identical to some sections of Alaska sable, a couple of Russian sections are generally of inferior quality to some Alaska sections.

A silvery Barguzin sable is a sight to behold though, absolutely the most beautiful fur to be found.

It will be interesting to see how marten sell on North American auctions this year. Seeing that 79,000 Russian skins averaged $97, it wouldn't surprise me if Alaska and good Canadian skins average well above $50.

That's true, almost everything that comes off 1:2 stretchers gets graded as Barguzin kryazh, except some Yakutian and Kamchatkan sables (but not always). Sables from narrower stretchers, including the Tobol sable, are usually sold as the Yenisey kryazh (but again, not always).
I saw an ad in the classifieds last week, the Ruspushnina was looking for temporary workers without previous experience for the next few days, until February 15, "to sort sable skins and tie them into bundles", so it doesn't look like they're being too meticulous nowadays...

Interesting that many trappers/buyers in Eastern Siberia knew about the significant increase in the upcoming auction prices well beforehand, in the beginning of December...

It's just current fashion smile A few white hairs on a dark sable look pretty, like a dark sea otter, but one of the big sable experts wrote in 1963 that "some sable skins have so many white guard hairs that the overall color becomes an ugly shade of ash-gray".

There appears to be good interest in Sables, maybe Fisher and Otter will pickup as well. Fisher almost for certain.
