I was busy working in the warehouse last night and got to thinking how many of you would want to trap where it’s cold and remote? A place where you can’t say it’s a hobby or sport more than a labour intensive often dangerous source of income. Just curious. For myself I can’t imagine trapping in warmer temperatures without snow.

I've done both, trapped in cold climates and warm climates. Each have their advantages and disadvantages. In the northern colder climates I trapped, the fur quality was better than the warmer southern climates. The warmer southern climates were easier to trap with higher fur populations over all, but the fur quality was not as good as in the northern colder climates.

The northern colder climates did have it's risks. I recall one day checking traps at 30 below and my snow machine quit on me. I was 15 miles from my truck, and it was a long hike. However, being prepared for such problems goes a long way in surviving. Also, if beaver trapping, you have ice to deal with, which can present a lethal hazard.

The warmer southern climate has some challenges too. There are the poisonous snakes that come out during a warm-up and gators if you're far enough south. I must say that I made way more money trapping in the warmer southern climates than the colder northern climates.

I would much rather trap in the cold then the hot. Trapping nuisance beaver deep in swamps in the South, during the Summer heat, like Paul does, is not something I would enjoy or even want to try.

I personally love cold weather, if it would get cold and stay cold, it would be better than what we have, this cold and then warms up and cold again sucks, for trapping, and yes, I could live up where you are, just need a good woman

Weather is a major component when to coms to being a successful trapper And being aware of how to deal with it will make you or break you Also bitter cold can kill you as quick as a bolt of lightning can Snake are part of some peoples trapping rout others must be aware of going through and hypothermia I like trapping best when the temps stay about 32 to 38 and the lows about 20 to 30 And when a front goes through the temps are another 10 to 20 degrees colder and the mink and canines move more and during those temp changes the large mature coon also get out to feed and look for a den mate to den with The hardest thing to do is trap when it is freezing and thawing nearly every day Those conditions can turn what is supposed to be fun into work frustration and aggravation And if you leave your guard down it can result in MAYHEM in the blink of an eye And trust me I peak from experience !!
