I should have done it last week. Cold snap just happened so everything's refroze just enough to block the water. I'll have to get my binoculars out and look for signs of push ups but I can't recall ever seeing one in this area. I only find pushups or huts on ponds and lakes, I haven't seen any on flowing water

Also look around for a lot of grass on the edge of ponds or steams. I know they are usually in an area like that. Could this be some kind of run do you think? Or is it unrelated? That looks like a flooded moose trail skirting the edge of a swamp. Rats around here are hard to find. Huts are small and look just like most of the humps of grass. Push-ups are small and get buried quickly under the snow. During warm weather they are prone to collapse. Good Luck!

You should put a 330 on that trail. You should catch anything that goes by. If it’s a beaver or a muskrat, both are great! It's definitely not beaver cause there's no beaver in that pond. Might be left over from swans though actually. They love that pond.

Definitely possible that a moose made that. I don't see them much in winter so I forgot that was a possibility. Thanks for the tips thats helpful. I have a couple spots where there potentially some dens that I'll have to check out while I'm setting for beaver and I'll keep my eyes open.

If you trap a push up when it gets about 10 degrees or colder at night, you may have problems with frozen in rats and or traps in morning if you don't have snow to pile on the pushups. At least those little push-ups around here that have enough room for maybe two rats.

I would think that many northern trappers just don't have wifi signal at their trapper shack.

I would think that many northern trappers just don't have wifi signal at their trapper shack. I don’t have a line shack. The line starts on the edge of the road and then goes north for 6 miles. The line is ran on snowshoes. So you need to dress warmly when you go!

I would think that many northern trappers just don't have wifi signal at their trapper shack. Starlink is pretty cool, it works anywhere and doesn't take much power. I can run mine on a Milwaukee 18V battery for about 6 hours

Locals regs require traps in this area to either be fully submerged or if they're smaller than 120 they can be boxed instead, but I haven't set up any ermine boxes. Yea Fishing, where in Alaska are those requirements?
