Fact Jackie!!!
It doesn’t matter. Short of a FULLY submerged 330, you’re gonna catch coon in any set around here.
There was a time I was happy about incidental coon lol

This thread has been very enlightening. I might try things differently next year. If I understand correctly when the carcass gets hit you obviously set up a walk thru. I imagine you might find a conducive spot for the walk thru before you throw the carcass just anyplace? And proximity is probably not that important or are you having your walk thru feet away. Great catches and thread. Just when i thought i couldn’t envy you anymore with all those otter pics you had to go and do this. Thumbs up

I have caught plenty of squirrels in marten sets...for a critter that supposedly eats nuts, they go nuts for a chunk of pork belly

Thanks for the kind words.

So here is a pic of one of my set ups of the last couple of days. You can see where the cat scratched up dirt, moss debris over the carcass. If you look closely you will see my set right next to the carcass with stepping sticks. The notion I have is when the cat returns to the carcass it walks around the perimeter checking things out before it starts to feed. I often help it out with a little castor or otter musk/gliserin in the general area so that it needs to travel from one scent to another passing through where my trap is. But the trap is right next to the carcass.

Yeah, you need one?

Actually they're not native out here but in my area showed up in the late 60's. I catch one or two most years.
