I don’t target and catch a lot of lynx, my only board is a solid board. I picked one up yesterday that is really big for around here. I’ve got multiple split boards for coyotes and am curious if anyone in here would go ahead and use one of them for it. I see certain places selling split boards now as coyote/wolverine/lynx so figure the suggested difference in the boards is maybe negligible. Any thoughts or opinions? Thanks.

You can use a coyote board for lynx they are the same size.
I have used a large otter board for lynx skins when doing fur handling competitions.Makes them look real nice.
Dont use a split board if it is one of those made out of two thin sticks.
Best split board is one that is near correct size when closed. That way you will have enough board on each side to pin out the back legs.

Thanks Boco, if you say I can then I confidently feel like I can. You post a lot of good info and have a wealth of knowledge and are definitely a foremost expert on here.

Only ever did one coyote on a split board, and it was a cat board, but it was what I had in camp. Looked just fine (my cat boards have narrower, more pointed heads than many). But I do extra big bobcats and coyotes on the same boards. I made them for magnum cats, but they work very well for coyotes also. So yes a split coyote board should work fine for a lynx.

Question, do you have a wedge type board to go up the middle of the split to pin the coyotes tail to?

Thanks for your reply as well. I’ve got a variety of coyote boards, ten of them with a few different dimensions in the mix including a couple with more pointed heads like you mentioned so I’m sure based on these couple replies I’ll be okay with this big cat.
I do pin the tail on the coyotes on the split boards. I just slide an extra large marten board up inside and pin the tail to it. I bought a couple marten boards years ago on the off chance I ever caught one. I haven’t lol. But the boards work well there and as belly boards on fisher. Haha

Side note; any truth to what I’m told by other local trappers, “you won’t have many marten if you have lots of fisher”?

I don't know, we have both but neither in the numbers that some of you Canadians have. Unfortunately we can't trap fisher, so I try and avoid them when marten trapping.
