…yeah … Atlanta is such a wonderful place now

It probably is to the slaves decendents compared to what their ancestors had to deal with.

Dirt, have you ever read Albert Pikes letter, written in the late 1800s?
It's quite relevant, even today

Every war the U.S. has been involved in was important. Americans lost their lives, watched friends die, and came home crippled.

If I had to pick just one, I'd say the Revolutionary war, as without it, we'd have never had a constitution to be desecrated by the civil war. And we'd have certainly never been a world power to fight in and help win all the subsequent wars.

All other casualties were US citizens too.

Obviousing the Revolutionary War changed the world. We'd probably be just now coming into the internet age...of dialup had that war not happened when it did.

But if we want to talk about importance as far has geopolitical consequences of the aftermath. It has to be as I said before, WW1. The breakup of the Ottoman Empire and the resulting Sykes-Picot agreement destabilized the muslim region and continues to do so. It put germany in the poorhouse which set the stage for Hitler's rise. Wilson was able to setup the League of Nations which was the forerunner of the UN
