That is very cool!

Thanks for the set-making tutorial. I would have never thought you could set in snow then drive over the trap like that.

I deal with snow by sweeping t off my sets. LOL

Eh...wot?

That’s what I thought too but they’ve been doing it up there for a looong time…lol. I stop the machine, shut it off or it’ll leave a big stinky hole from the exhaust, then walk out and start setting about 40yds in front of the machine. When we drove over them the first time, there was little depressions where they were. After some snow and more travelling you couldn’t tell where they were, was wondering if they’d still be operational. The 750s are a great trap, but I’m going to use my bigger traps with more reach for snowmobile trail sets after the 2 escapes. They held for a while judging by the carnage around.

Congrats, Sj. Trapping them by foot is pretty much the epitome of trapping, in my book.

Good stuff Shakeyjake. What's the jaw spread on those 750's and 850's?

Always a rush to come up to a wolf in a foothold. I'm a fan of those Duke 850s, there are better wolf traps out there, but I don't think anything else in their price point is comparable. I've caught nine wolves in them and almost every one has had the dog bent up, and some had the pan bent. But I've always been able to straighten them out enough with the tools I had with me to reset them. And the rest of the trap is built stout. The 750s on the other hand are a good dry ground trap in my opinion. First wolf I ever caught was in one, but they are the worst wolf trap I've used for freezing down and you're right, they just don't have the jawspread to come up through much snow.

What Snowmobile are you running? Those trail sets and driving over them were awesome when I used to run a Tundra R, when I went to bigger machines with deeper lug traps I learned you had to set them deeper. My current SWT is good for floating over set traps, but it leaves such a wide, flat trail that I feel I need to use Guiding when making trail sets.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Is she or you going to do anything with the skull. Seems like it would be something nice to clean up to keep or sell .

There might be wolves about 30 miles down the road from me but I haven't gotten out that way to look for tracks yes. This post really makes me want to.

Plenty of 67 pound adult female wolves around. Even in Alaska. Local guy got a 126 pound male a week ago. Might be a pic on Ak. Trap assoc. FB page.

If I wasn't going to be in Anchorage over my weekend I would be out looking for coyotes and wolves. Sadly will have to wait a week.

Maybe I should try picking up a foothold trap or two while I'm there. All I have are snares and connibears.

Congrats Shakey, that’s a very nice looking wolf!!!
Do you have sets in locations where others are driving over them on snowmobile too while just out trail riding?
