Jump traps work good.
Caught rats, mink, marten, skunk, fox, beaver and wolf in jump traps over the years.
Set the spring opposite the approach for short legged animals.

Dont get the B&L double underspring traps then. I love them for mink trapping but thy are the most contemptable trap I ever set. I cant set them just by hand and I have to find a hard spot preferably with a hump on it to set them by foot.

lumberjack391 I am with you I love the traps but they are horrible to set once you get old and start losing the strength in your hands. I carry a vice grip plier and a channel lock to set them with.

You’re right about those old double under springs. I caught a beaver in hind foot once way back and it held him but that’s the worst trap I’ve ever owned. The 2 I have hang on the collector wall

Ya they are a good trap. I like them for water trapping, sometimes they aren’t as easy to set as they look

They are a bit harder to set than they look because the single spring really doesnt offer much to grab on to. Kinda have to hold the chain down over your knee and press the spring down which makes it awkward to open the jaws.

I think I have a few jumps still and theres a usually some around at the conventions. Ohio's is in Lima this year.

#2 jumps and #21 B&L jumps are my favorite for blind sets along creek banks or pond edges

I'm 72 and #4 jumps are easy for me to set. I got a pair of one handed setters, why make life harder than it has to be?

I like #1 1/2 and #2 for water sets.

Look on here or online for jump traps for sale. Conventions are great places for them too.

Just passin through

I have a bunch of Blake & Lamb 4 's that are very strong, good traps.

I cant squeeze vise grips or channel locks any easier LOL.

I like the #1’s for quick marten sets. Light and easy to set.

Love jumps, but if you're struggling with coils, get setters, don't get jumps. The single spring makes it more awkward to set because there's nothing to push on or hold on the opposite side. I use the side of my boot to set #14's
