What are the bigger DBL with the square pans? I can’t really tell what all is there. But I’m watching them about 3.5 hours away Blake and Lamb 44.

I wish I lived close by. However, it has been mostly my experience that traps go for more than they are worth at a public sale, it would be interesting to see what happens.

Those stoploss are B&L, 1 1/2 post pan. Still shiny. A hard to find item. Retail value of that box alone is about a grand. Those 44 B&L double longs are $30.00 each at least.
Looks like they are going to sell them by the pallet, which means only a dealer or a very rich trapper can afford them. The auction company is costing their customer money by not splitting them up.
Wish I lived closer. I’d be there with an empty van and a pile of cash.
Any one that lives close by want to work with me on this??? So what do you think the pallet of traps will actually bring ? You said only a dealer or rich trapper could afford them Listing said there was some paperwork from 1969 with some of them Son has a friend that lives in MO but I don't think it is real close to their location (not close enough to have him pick up and hold or bring to TX on his next visit) or I would seriously consider buying to flip myself. 9.5hrs from my driveway but if they sold for stupid cheap it sounds like it would be well worth a road trip

I bet they get surprisingly close to full retail if sold on a per trap basis. The auction company should send Mike77 a thank you card for this post.

My understanding is you are bidding on the entire pallet for one price. Will price most trappers out of the bidding.

Has anyone looked at this since bids opened up ? It didn’t take long to get on up there, the one lot is $810.00 this morning . I’m guess before it’s over it will be over $1000.00 . I was showing my wife yesterday then next thing I know she asked if I wanted them almost fell over when she said that . Did you look really close at that pallet of traps? In my opinion, $1,000.00 would be rather low, based on current retail value of those traps.

I think you will see the bidding go wild near the end of the auction. Yes usually people wait till the last few minutes of bidding time to bid and it can get wild.people get a mindset iam going to buy that and your not getting it I've seen it happen lots of times where stuff goes for more then you could buy new.

I think $3000 is a pretty low estimate now that I can get a better idea of what's there. They can all be hauled in a pick up so really only gas money. 4.5 hours from here. I could haul them all in our car if I left the barrels there, cost under $80 for gas. I'm not interested in them though. My time isn't free

Wow, even some 2 1/2 single long springs, we're talking late 70's vintage on this stuff. In addition to the 44's, it looks like there are some 4's also. Blake and Lamb had springs that where much superior to the Victors. These would be fantastic user trap, but it would be kind of a shame to use them.

I remember those 2 1/2's in the catalogs, they never caught on, what were they primarily geared to/for? They seemed to be too big for most stuff and too small for the rest. There was a western state that they were popular in due to some law about SINGLE spring traps. Kansas maybe?

Almost all of the 44’s are undersprings. Very helpful to know. Thanks He's just saying that to keep the bids down so he can get them. Them possum cops can't be trusted, even in retirement. ![[Linked Image]](https://iowatrapperstalk.com/images/graemlins/default/roflmao.gif)

We could run a little lottery here. Guess the closing prices. Lot 270 $2300 Lot 271 $1800 Lot 272 $ 375 Closest to the ending prices wins. 3 chances to win.

So the 2 1/2 is a 3 with just one spring? No the jaws are not symmetrical they are rounded on the opposite of the spring. They are their own traps. Some #1's are the same way, not designed to use a second spring.

Too rich for me. Fun to watch though. Maybe some will show up on here? $6.70/trap average before the 3.5% on the traps on the pallet. $10.15 ea for the ones in the barrels, currently. Still money to made. It takes money to make money they say. These are higher dollar to collectors, and the fans of the B&L traps. There are some hidden gems in there too IMO.

Just left there from handling them. They belonged to Bill Pruitt. (Not spelling the name correctly). An old fur buyer from St. Louis. The guy who bought his place found them in a shed and put them on the auction. Too many 44 double under springs in the mix. They aren’t worth much. I'm right about there being a couple "sleepers" in there though, I bet. ? I bet there aren't many trap collectors that have a new old stock #44 DUS in their collections. They may be worth more than you think. You're right about their value as users.

How many Newhouse traps are on the bottom? You'll have to ask the guys who were actually there to see them in person.

KRE that was my do everything trap in the '50 and '60s. Mainly coon, grey fox and very few reds they all were caught in that trap. Of course muskrats and occasionally mink..... Long time ago.......jk Oh and they were 50 cents each at the furrier in Union NJ

And occasionally for the buyer. I’ve snagged a few good deals. Not very often but it does happen.
Claycreech - you are wrong about that. There were TWO people out of their minds. Takes more than one bidder to drive prices that high!! But I agree that price is a money loser any way you look at it. Touché mam! You are absolutely correct!

The breakout of what’s in the barrels is as below.
26- #44 DLS 22-#4 DLS 11-#44 DUS 40-#2 stop loss (you mentioned these had #2 pans but are #1.5) 7-#2 Montgomery step-in coil spring used 24-#1 DLS 43-# 2 1/2 SLS 1- 1 1/2 stop loss 2- #21 under spring used or at least rusted 2- Victor 3N original but very heavy rust and misaligned 5- #2 SLS used

Maybe you're just a bad salesman Clay. LOL So how many Newhouse were in there and what other treasures that you couldn't see in the pictures? There was 2 #3 Newhouse in one of the cardboard barrels. One was badly damaged. Not the really old ones. Oneida Community. Nothing to get excited about. Between the 2 lots there was 18 dozen 1 1/2 stoploss.

That was what was in the lot with the 3 cardboard barrels. So, which lot was actually worth more (IYO) ? The barrel skid lot 271 that went for $3400, or the box skid lot 270 that went for $ 5350 ?

Crappiekiller's list seems incorrect in that there were 2 newhouse (Guessing that's what he's calling 3N's) and no such critter as a #2 SLS, maybe #1 or 1.5s with the wrong pan?. and there is a picture of a #11 that appears to have a #1 pan on it. So I'm assuming those are the #1 DLS listed.
How much could you get for a dozen NOS B&L 1 1/2 stop losses? I am absolutely no trap expert. What I called the 3n’s are what I guess were the Newhouse. They were rusted up and misalignment of the jaws was so bad I didn’t consider them useful. There were several that may of had the pans swapped. I just went by what the pan said. The #1 DLS had a pan that said #1. Being a double long spring, I think the correct name is a #11. The 40+ stoploss all had #2 pans but a member here told me there was no such thing and probably had different pans attached.

I had the lot of traps in the boxes valued at a little over $300 higher than the lot with the cardboard barrels, but there was a nearby 2K difference in what they brought lol. And don’t forget a little over 10% sales tax and buyers premium.

I'm sure the pans were switched in the factory. Nancy told me they were changing factories around the time these were bought and suspected they were using up old stock pans. I wasn't ragging on you, just pointing out they were easy to mis-identify due the mixed up pans.

Just curious if anyone heard who purchased the traps? You would think word would have gotten out.

I had a max number in my head that I was going to bid. The price had already exceeded my max before I even went to bed Friday night
